Toy Indians (GDR) are legendary figures from the Soviet past

In Soviet times, thousands of boys across the country dreamed of toy figures of soldiers, Indians (GDR). Not everyone succeeded in getting such ones, because they were not produced in the USSR, but were imported from the GDR.

A bit of history

The peak of popularity of rubber Indians from the GDR acquired in the 60-80-ies. XX century, when the theme of the Wild West was particularly in demand in the USSR and other socialist countries. Such interest in these toys was due to the incredible success of the films with Goiko Mitic, who also starred in the GDR.

The Indians themselves in the GDR were made, as a rule, from elastolin, and later from rubber.

The exterior design of toys was developed on the basis of the literary works of the German writer Karl May, who specialized in westerns, and also based on insanely popular adventure films about the Wild West, the key role in the majority of which was played by the legendary Goiko Mitic.

It should be noted that, in addition to the Indians, the German Democratic Republic also produced figures of German army soldiers in field uniforms, which were much less known in the Soviet Union.

Collecting

To date, the figures of the Indians (GDR) - this is not toys, but rather collectible items, because they represent a certain historical interest. Especially for residents of the post-Soviet space they represent a whole historical epoch.

The cost of the Indians from the GDR is difficult to determine accurately, since a number of factors influence the formation of prices. Among them are the personal ambitions of the owner of figurines, the rarity of the set (sold mostly in sets), the number of figures in them, the state of preservation, and so on.

Considering all these factors, the owner puts out this or that price. As a rule, the cost of sets for today ranges from 1,000 to 8,000 rubles.

Separately from the set, the Indians (GDRs) are sold extremely rarely, because only sometimes someone needs a certain figure. But the cost of a particular figure can exceed the price for the whole set, especially if it is a rather rare specimen.

Today you can buy Indians from the GDR either on the Internet ad sites or in German specialized online stores, although prices in Germany are much higher, but the assortment is much broader.

Conclusion

Indians (GDRs) are not just toy figures, but an entire epoch that people living in the USSR call nostalgic feelings, and the younger generation gives an opportunity to better understand and feel that historical period.

However, in Russia and other countries with a socialist past, such as the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, etc., these figures of Indians are quite in demand among collectors who are willing to pay a lot of money for a particular set Figures.

After the GDR and the FRG united, the Westerns in Germany practically stopped shooting, so the interest in toy Indians and cowboys gradually faded. Now they are of interest only as collectors of people who are impressed by that historical epoch.
