Touching the secret, or How does a mermaid look like

If we believe different myths, legends and ancient traditions, our world is inhabited not only by people, but also by different essences. Everyone heard about the house, the devil, the swamp, the kikimorah, but few saw them. One of the most interesting characters in folklore is the mermaid. This creature is mentioned both in Slavonic texts and in European texts. Who is she? What does a mermaid look like?

Different and mysterious

The names of this virgin are many. Our ancestors called her a swimsuit, a lefthander, a scrofula (tickling), a female officer, a pack, a mantle. In each region of Russia were in the course of their names, and in Europe it was often called the sea maiden. The Slavs believed the female leader in the spirit of reservoirs and fields, this also depended on what a mermaid looks like.

The traditional Russian coat looked outwardly like an ordinary human girl, the only difference from which was long and undoubtedly loose brown hair (the connection between the words "fair-haired" and "mermaid" can be traced). The fact is that in those days a girl or woman seemed simple-haired, without a braid, was considered shameful and unacceptable.

Residents of the northern part of the country had a different idea of what a real mermaid looks like. In their opinion, this is a woman of disgusting appearance, shaggy, slovenly, certainly with a huge bust, here and there in Ukraine these creatures had the appearance of pale-skinned girls or teenagers with hair of the color of mud.

Unintentional meetings

The way a mermaid looks is directly dependent on its origin, and with him too the situation is ambiguous. A drowned woman could become a drowned woman as she consciously shortened her life, as well as a water sacrifice, as well as a baby, a damned woman, who died before the baptism. At the same time, the Celts initially recognized these virgins as independent creatures - fairies, keepers and bereguins of reservoirs and wells. For the most part our ancestors kept mermaids for malicious and dangerous persons, but they were not too afraid. There was an opinion that they could lead a dragon, spin, stumble a traveler, tickle him to death.

They love these girls to dance and sing songs (most often sad) about their bitter share and ruined lives, especially often they come to their eyes on the days of the mermaid week. It is the stories about such meetings that give us the opportunity to imagine what a mermaid looks like. They are afraid of the signs of the godfather, as, indeed, most of the creatures similar to them, since they belong to the world of impure ones. Another scarecrow for them served as a grass-Chernobyl (wormwood).

Often, in contact with people, a mermaid would guess the traditional riddle: "Wormwood or parsley?" The one who chose parsley, threatened to be tickled. Most of the people who allegedly met the blossoms say that there is no clothes on them or they are, but they are quite dilapidated, tattered, with a name more than clothing. Therefore, when meeting with a representative of the subtle worlds it was considered necessary to give her a piece of cloth. It could be a handkerchief, an apron. If there was absolutely nothing, then it was necessary to tear off the scrap of his clothes.

Of course, people of the technological age, who have lost faith in miracles, are unlikely to see what a mermaid looks like. In a life that consists of haste and pragmatics, there is no room for magical creatures, but perhaps somewhere else there are transparent cold lakes in which, under a deceptive and enticing moon, beautiful beauties splash ...
