The way to check spelling in the "Word"

Users who often use "Word" noticed that sometimes, some of the words the program highlights, emphasizing a wavy line that has a color (blue, green or red). She does it for a reason. It tells the user that he made a mistake, whether it's punctuation or grammar. But, of course, the fact that the allocation was wrong was not overlooked either.

In this article, we will look at how to check the spelling in the Word, using its built-in tools for this purpose. All the nuances of this check will be considered in detail, so that by the result of reading the article the user will understand in every detail.

Check the punctuation and grammar

All measures to check the spelling should be divided into three blocks, which will be disassembled a little lower. Now it's worth telling about how to enable the spelling checker.

First of all run the program itself and open in it the document in which you want to perform verification and correction. Next, you need to go to the "Review" tab, because it is there that the tool we need is located. Now, on the toolbar, find and click the "Spelling" button.

Tip: If you want to check spelling not in the whole text, but only in some part of it, then before selecting the "Spelling" button, select the necessary part of the text.

After clicking, the program will analyze your text, and in the event that at least one error was found, the "Spelling" window will appear on the right side, where actions will be taken to correct this problem.

By the way, it is worth noting that you do not need to go to the "Reviewing" tab. You can open the "Spelling" window by pressing the F7 hotkey keyboard.

Before proceeding to direct work on errors, one can still pay attention to their types. As you can see, they stand out underlined. And depending on the nature of the error, the line color changes. If the word is underlined in red, it means that the program is not known. If blue or green - grammatical or punctuation.

Note: Grammar and punctuation errors are underlined either by the green or the blue line - it depends on the version of the program. For example, in Word 2013 this line will be blue, and in 2007 - green.

Now let's see how to check the spelling in the Word. As you can see, in the "Spelling" window there are three main buttons with which you can interact. Let's look at each individually.

  • "Skip" - using this button, you miss the error that is currently selected, thereby letting the program know that there is no problem in the word. However, in the future it will all be illuminated exactly as wrong.
  • "Skip all" - clicking this button, all similar words in the document will no longer be highlighted.
  • "Add" - this button is responsible for adding to the program dictionary the word, which is currently selected and considered to be erroneous. Because of the addition, it will never again be allocated.

Error correction

Errors must, of course, be corrected. That's why you need to know how to check spelling in Word. In addition to the above buttons, there are two more in the "Spelling" window - "Edit" and "Edit all". We will also consider them, but a little later.

Now let's pay attention to the window. In this window there will be a list of words to which you can replace an incorrectly written word. That is, the program tries to analyze and understand what exactly you meant. You just need to highlight the correct fix and click the "Replace" button to correct the error. By the way, if you click the "Edit All" button, this error will be corrected throughout the text. It is for this that these buttons are needed.

Tip: If you do not know which of the fixes is correct, then you can use special services, such as "Orthogram" or "Literacy."

End of test

After you check and correct all errors in the text, you will see a window that will notify you that the test is completed. You just need to click the "OK" button.
