The preparation "Almagel". Instructions for its use.

"Almagel" - an antacid drug, which includes a component that reduces flatulence. It is a white or almost white suspension with a pronounced orange odor for ingestion.

The instruction accompanying the "Almagel" preparation allows you to find out about the composition of this drug, the active substances of which are magnesium hydroxide, algal hydrate (aluminum hydroxide) and simethicone. There are also auxiliary components: sorbitol, sodium saccharinate, hydrogen peroxide, hyetellose, propylene glycol, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, ethylparahydroxybenzoate, citric acid monohydrate, macrogol 4000, ethanol 96%, orange flavor, purified water.

Thus, "Almagel" is a combined medicinal product, the effect of which is determined by the components that make up its composition. It has an adsorbent, antacid, carminative, enveloping action. Magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide neutralize in the stomach free hydrochloric acid, bind bile acids and reduce acidity in gastric juice. Algeldrat slows down the bowel motility. However, this ability is balanced by the laxative action of magnesium hydroxide. Simethicone, available in the formulation, reduces the formation of gas bubbles and contributes to their destruction. In this case, the released gases absorb the walls of the intestines, after which they are excreted from the body due to peristalsis.

The instruction available at the Almagel preparation gives an opportunity to get acquainted with the indications for the use of this medication:

- putrefactive or fermentation dyspepsia ;

- flatulence;

- gastralgia or heartburn caused as a result of excessive use of nicotine, ethanol, coffee, medicines, and also because of an incorrect diet;

- pancreatitis acute, exacerbation of pancreatitis chronic;

- reflux-esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux;

- duodenogastric reflux, acute duodenitis;

- Ulcer of duodenum or stomach during the period of exacerbation;

- symptomatic ulcer of the gastrointestinal tract;

- erosion of the upper gastrointestinal mucosa;

Acute gastritis;

- exacerbation of chronic gastritis.

It is necessary to know that the Almagel preparation has contraindications prohibiting the use of this medication. Among them, such as age less than 10 years, renal chronic insufficiency, hypophosphatemia, pregnancy, congenital individual intolerance to fructose, Alzheimer's disease, a particular hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

The instruction accompanying the "Almagel" preparation indicates the possibility of side effects: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, allergic reactions, changes in taste sensations. If the drug is taken long and in large amounts, hypercalciuria, hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia, hyperaluminia, hypermagnesia, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, nephrocalcinosis, encephalopathy, impaired renal function may occur. Patients with kidney failure, taking "Almagel", can feel thirsty, hyporeflexia, lowering blood pressure.

The preparation "Almagel" has several analogues, any of which should be taken strictly in the prescribed dose, so that there is no overdose. One of the most common analogues is "Almagel neo". Instructions for its use describe the following symptoms of an overdose: redness of the face, fatigue, muscle weakness, exhaustion, inadequate behavior. Also, the mood may manifest pain or numbness of the muscles, slowed breathing, nervousness, impaired mental activity. In case of finding these symptoms, you should stop taking Almagel. The instructions for use also describe such necessary measures as stimulation of vomiting, gastric lavage and the use of activated charcoal.
