The novel "Oblomov." Characteristics of the characters of the work
The theme of this article is the characterization of the heroes of Oblomov.
Ilya Ilyich Oblomov. Sliding on the plane of laziness
The central image of the book is the young (32-33 years) landowner Ilya Ilyich Oblomov, a lazy, imposing dreamer. He is a man of medium height, with dark gray eyes, pleasant features, childlike pampered puffy hands. Oblomov lives in the Petersburg apartment on the Vyborg side . The character of this person is ambiguous. Oblomov is a wonderful conversationalist. He is by nature unable to inflict harm on anyone. His soul is pure. Educated, has a wide horizon. At any one time, his face reflects a continuous flow of thoughts. It would seem that we are talking about a successful person, if not for the great laziness that has infiltrated Ilya Ilyich. From his childhood, he was cared for in small things by numerous nannies. "Zakharki da Vanya" from serfs did for him any, even small-scale work. In idleness and lying on the couch his days pass.
He is naive to such an extent that in the end he turns out to be deceived and ruined by swindlers: Mikhei Tarantyev and Ivan Matveyevich Mukhoyarov. Mikhey Tarantyev is a forty-year-old big man, typical "bred", "master of talk", a parasite in the company of a type. Convinced of the scoundrel, Oblomov leaves the apartment and returns to Oblomovka. Tarantyev is a swindler for "trust", listening to him, the victim seems to be "clear and understandable", but only it comes to practical execution, as Tarantiev does not get out. Then he gave the "warm customer" to his accomplice. Ivan Matveyevich Mukhoyarov is made of another test. This is a passer-by-practitioner. His craft - forgery, meanly composed, ruining documents.
Trusting them, Oblomov signed a bonded contract for his Vyborg apartment, and then paid a lime "moral damage" to the brother of Agafya Mukhoyarov in the amount of ten thousand rubles by a false loan. A friend of Ilya Ilyich Stolz reveals the scoundrels. After that, Tarantyev "starts running".
People close to Oblomov
Oblomov has a devoted and loving civic spouse - the widow Agafya Pshenitsyna - an unbeatable mistress, close-minded, illiterate, but honest and decent. Outwardly it is complete, but it's good, hard-working. Ilya Ilyich admires it, comparing it with a cheesecake. A woman breaks all relations with her brother Ivan Mukhojarov, having learned of the low sell-off of his husband. After the death of a civil husband, a woman feels that "the soul was taken out of her". After giving his son to the Stoltsi, Agafia simply wants to leave after her Ilya. Money does not interest her, as can be seen from her refusal to pay the proceeds from the Oblomov estate.
Ilya Ilyich is served by Zakhar - untidy, lazy, but worshiping his master and devoted to the end servant of the old school. After the death of the master, the former servant prefers to beg, but is near his grave.
More about the image of Andrew Stolz
Often, the theme of school essays is the comparative characteristics of Oblomov and Stolz. They are the opposite even in appearance. Tender, swarthy, with sunken cheeks, it seems that Stolz is all made up of muscles and tendons. He has behind him the state service, rank, guaranteed income. Later, working in a trading company, he earned a house purchase. He shows activity and creativity, he is offered interesting and money work. It is he who in the second part of the novel tries to reduce Oblomov to Olga Ilyinskaya, acquainting them. However, Oblomov stopped in the construction of relations with this lady, because he was afraid to change housing and do active work. Disappointed Olga, who planned to re-educate the lazy, left him. However, the image of Stolz is not ideal, despite his constant creative work. He, like Oblomov's antipode, is afraid to dream. In this image Goncharov invested with abundance of rationality and rationalism. The writer believed that the image of Stolz was not improved. Anton Pavlovich Chekhov even considered this image negative, motivating this judgment by saying that he was "too happy" and "thinks himself too well."
Olga Ilyinskaya - the woman of the future
The image of Olga Ilyinskaya is strong, finished, beautiful. Not a beauty, but surprisingly harmonious and dynamic. She is deeply spiritual and active at the same time. Ilya Oblomov met her singing the aria "Casta diva". This woman proved to be capable of stirring even such a penny. But Oblomov's reeducation turned out to be an extremely difficult task, it was not effective to train woodpeckers, laziness deeply took root in it. In the end, from the relationship with Olga first (because of laziness) refuses Oblomov. Characteristic of their further relations is Olga's active sympathy. She marries the fond of her active, reliable and faithful Andrew Stolz. They have a wonderful harmonious family. But the discerning reader will understand that an active German "does not get" to the level of his spouse a spiritual beginning.
Conclusion
The novel did not reveal the image of Andrei Stoltz to the degree conceived by Ivan Aleksandrovich Goncharov. The author of this article considers this to be natural. After all, the classic depicted in these characters two extremes. The first is a useless dream, and the second is a pragmatic non-spiritual activity. Obviously, only by combining these qualities in the right proportion, we will get something harmonious.
