The largest bridges in the world: concrete, suspended, natural and other
What do people mean when they are asked to name the biggest bridges in the world? Bridges that differ in their height? The longest structures?
Or those that took most of the building materials? In fact, there are many ratings in the world, in which the most-most bridges are presented in all possible categories. Today we will only get acquainted with some of them.
The biggest bridges in the world
One of the first places is claimed by China. It is there, in Hangzhou, there is a structure, the length of which exceeds 36 kilometers. No, this is not a highway. Until 2011, it was the largest bridge in the world in terms of length. It has the shape of S, stretches over the ocean, crosses the Yangtze Delta. An unusual beauty bridge connects the north and south of China, allowing you to cut the path to 120 km. In 2011, in the same country, another bridge was opened - Qindao. He is longer than his "colleague". Today they are both recognized as the largest bridges in the world (photos confirm this) along the length. If we consider not only such constructions, but everything, as the builders say, "bridge-type constructions", then the main line in Thailand can claim a primacy. It, however, passes over the land, but its length is 54 kilometers. If we consider the bridges in terms of the length of the main span, then the record holder will be the Japanese Akashi-Kaikyo.
In German Magdeburg, a car-pedestrian bridge 918 meters long joins two rivers: Elbe and Havel. The length of the Millau viaduct in France is 2460 meters. The length of the bridge "Bein" (Myanmar) is just a little more than a kilometer, but it can also be added to the list of giants. The fact is that it was built in 1849 from ... a tree. This is the largest and oldest active construction, made only of wood, which is still possible movement. The biggest bridges in the world are able to build not only people. Nature itself sometimes creates unique masterpieces. So, in the state of Utah (USA) there is a bridge, which was formed because of a strong stream of river water. Its height is almost 89 meters. The arcuate, strongly curved, it resembles a rainbow, that's why it's called: Rainbow Bridge.
