The following message appears: 'Windows IP address conflict detected'. What to do?

This publication addresses the solution of such a problem as the conflict of an IP address with another system. Why do these problems occur and how to deal with them? First of all, these things should be treated calmly, since there is no danger that the message that a conflict of Windows IP addresses is detected for your operating system and computer does not carry.

There is a similar phenomenon in certain cases. For example, an IP address conflict is possible when your local network is static. In this case, it is possible to occupy your IP-address with another user (employee). A typical situation may be the following: someone brings his laptop from home or is updating computer hardware, new "machines" are added. This situation can lead to the fact that the previously owned IP address is assigned to one of the new computers.

It is not difficult to guess about further events. An IP address conflict occurs and a corresponding message appears from the Windows operating system . After all, such addresses must be strictly unique and analogs are inadmissible. The OS message is usually accompanied, as a rule, by the appearance of the corresponding network connection icon in the tray. As it was said above, this incident should not cause any cause for concern, and the problem itself can be simply corrected.

Of course, you will have to change your IP address. Naturally, it is necessary to take into account certain rules for using local networks. In particular, you need to try to avoid the occupation of someone else's address, which will cause another IP address conflict and a new message from the operating system. We will consider the solution for the Windows Vista operating system, but with the Windows XP operating system installed on the personal computer, the problem resolution process is similar.

To get started, go to the "Control Panel" by clicking the "Start" button and then clicking on the appropriate tab. If all the same it is a question of Windows XP, then it will be necessary to select the corresponding icon of "Network connections" and go to "Properties". Further actions are performed in the same way as for Windows Vista. Find the "Network and Sharing Center" and start it. This will lead to the opening of an appropriate window containing information on this connection.

The idea will be that everything is fine with him and it is correct. There is no Internet connection. To resolve IP address conflicts, you need to go to the next item, "View Status." Paying attention to the inscription "IPv-4-connection", you will notice that opposite it is indicated "Local". This is the problem, and after its elimination, this line will have a different status - "Internet".

Go to "Properties" and select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)". It is this version (4) that is most often used today. Again go to the "Properties", moving to the next opened window. In it you can see the current settings for your personal computer. It is here that you need to change the IP settings, observing some rules:

  • There are limits that are allowed for IP space. Go beyond the set for such addresses can not.
  • The address you choose should be unique for this local network.

In principle, to achieve uniqueness is not difficult, otherwise the message that a conflict of IP-addresses of Windows is detected will appear again and again. So, you need to change your address right up to the complete elimination of the problem.

If all these manipulations are presented to the PC user as complex, then there is another solution to the problem that has arisen. You just need to create an appeal to the technical support of your local network. Describe the problem and wait for an answer. In this case, the corresponding expert will take the decision.
