This greatly differentiated him from other officials who, while holding such a position, were primarily concerned about their well-being. Muravyov-Amursky, on the contrary, fought financial crime.

Special merits

At that time, the Far East was sparsely populated. The Governor-General did everything possible to increase the flow of population to this region. In addition, Nikolai Nikolayevich was a zealous fighter for the abolition of serfdom. But his main credit to Russia was that he returned her the left bank of the Amur. This happened after the talks between Muraviev-Amursky and the Chinese emperor. They concluded the Treaty of Aygun. Since then, the border with China has not changed on our maps. Nicholas the First emphasized that thanks to the Governor-General, it was possible to return the territories alienated as far back as the 17th century, costing without war.
