The first signs of diabetes mellitus

How to determine diabetes mellitus? Today, the diagnosis of this common disease in the early stages is very important. But most people who are predisposed to this disease do not know and are not interested in his symptoms. A pity, because the consequences of the development of this disease are very sad.

Diabetes mellitus refers to endocrine diseases, in particular, it is associated with pancreatic function disorder, which is why the mechanism of interaction of the insulin hormone with the cells of the body is broken, or insulin is not produced in sufficient quantity. Due to insulin deficiency, the blood glucose level increases, but cells do not receive the necessary energy for functioning. Of the total number of cases of diabetes in 50% of cases, the following complications result:

  • Visual impairment;
  • Development of kidney disease;
  • Development of diseases of the nervous system.

By classification, diabetes mellitus is divided into two types. The first type is associated with an insufficient amount of insulin produced in the body, due to improper pancreas work. The overwhelming majority of patients with the first type of diabetes live only due to regular injections of insulin. The second type of diabetes is associated with impaired interaction of cells and the hormone of insulin, and it often happens that patients for a long time do not suspect about their illness. In connection with the ignorance of the symptoms of diabetes, this disease is often diagnosed accidentally, for example, when analyzing blood for sugar or when analyzing urine.

The emergence of diabetes mellitus does not depend on age, it can appear at any stage of life, but still, the greatest group of the population is at the greatest risk of its development. The first signs of diabetes in adults are divided into basic and secondary.

The main signs of diabetes:

  • Frequent urination. There is a significant increase in the frequency of trips to the toilet (both at night and during the day) due to increased urinary pressure due to the presence of glucose in it;
  • Thirst, which is associated with excessive release of urine. If a person is tormented by constant thirst, if he drinks much more water than usual, there is a possibility that these are the first signs of diabetes mellitus;
  • A constant feeling of hunger. The symptom is related to the fact that cells without insulin can not process glucose into the energy necessary for their functioning;
  • Causeless weight loss, down to exhaustion. It is also a symptom of diabetes, it develops against a background of increased appetite and is associated with the lack of glucose in the cells.

The first signs of diabetes, listed above, are characteristic of type 1 diabetes, and they manifest so quickly that the patient can easily name the time of their onset.

Secondary symptoms develop gradually throughout life. They are typical for all types of diabetes mellitus. To them, in the first place, are the problems of the skin. Diabetes is characterized by prolonged skin diseases, which are treated for a very long time, and foci of infections show a tendency to suppuration. Also, in some cases, the sensitivity of the limbs is reduced, starting with the fingers and toes, and ending with the hands and feet. This includes skin itching, as well as itching of the mucous membranes (for women it is characterized by vaginal itching).

What are the first signs of diabetes? They can also include the general oppressed state, weakness of the organism. This is due to increased blood sugar. Sugar entering the blood, under the influence of insulin, is assimilated by cells that use it to generate the necessary energy. In the event that insulin is not produced or if its interaction with cells is disturbed, sugar is not processed, but remains in the blood. In addition, diabetes mellitus manifests a constant dry mouth and frequent headache. There may also be a decrease in vision.

Today, every person should pay attention to the signs of this disease in order to promptly seek help from doctors. Only an attentive attitude towards the state of health will make it possible to avoid the development of complications that are life-threatening.
