The film "Babylon of our era" - actors and roles, reviews

In the fantastic action movie "Babylon of our era" the actors Vin Diesel and Melanie Thierry, or rather, their screen characters, save a new race of people from certain death and confront the sect of noelites. The film at the box office did not earn a lot of money and barely paid back its budget. Let's try to figure out what might not please the viewer in this picture.

A short story and the creators of the film

The film "Babylon of our era" is rich in a variety of plot intricacies. It falls under the category of science fiction films, but if it were possible, the creation of the Frenchman Mathieu Cassowitz could be called "fantastic science fiction."

In his film, it is not so far away: by 2027, according to the plot of the film, as a result of the terrible war, the entire population of Eurasia will turn into beggars, dirty and wretched people. But America will be stronger than ever. And to get there permanently, the mercenary Tourop takes on the dirtiest job: he agrees to take the unfortunate girl from the Kirghiz monastery to New York to the sect to the insidious noelites. But on the way, the main hero changes his mind and does it now and turns into a fierce defender of Aurora, who also turns out to be the "elected" representative of the new race. In the finale the girl very effectively perishes, but leaves her children "re-educated" from the scoundrel to the noble knight Touropu. Here is such a heart-rending story.

Mathieu Cassowitz shortly before "Babylon of our era" shot a thriller "Gothic" with Halle Berry in the title role, turned out to be at the box office more successfully. But then a whole team worked on the horror film, including producer Robert Zemeckis. In the case of Babylon, Kassowitz took over the functions of director, producer and screenwriter at the same time.

"Babylon of our era": actors. Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel is famous for his reincarnations in tough guys. He is always collected in the frame and is as brutal as possible. The most famous actor brought the role of Dominique Toretto from the franchise "Fast and the Furious". Since then, Diesel only gained popularity year after year. To the project of Mathieu Kassovitz he came in 2007, just after the release of the "Triple Fast and the Furious".

In the painting "Babylon of our era" the actors Vin Diesel and Melanie Thierry, more precisely, their characters, first meet in the monastery of noelites in the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The hero of Diesel Tourop sees in the girl Aurora only an object that needs to be transported from point "A" to point "B", to receive its reward in the form of an American passport and to be washed away. But in the course of the development of the plot, Vin Diesel (Tourop) understands that beyond such as Aurora is the future, and that he can not leave her "at the mercy of" the noelites - a bunch of fanatics. A little later it turns out that Aurora by way of the Immaculate Conception was able to become a twin mother, but at childbirth she dies, leaving her new friend - Touropu - her legacy in the form of two kids.

Melanie Thierry as Aurora

Melanie, who played the role of the same Aurora, is a French actress. Thierry worked as a model for a long time, and in 1996 she made her debut in the little-known French film "American".

For a long time Melanie Thierry remained known only within her country. And only the main role in "Babylon" allowed to become famous for the whole world. However, after the release of the action movie Kassovich, little has changed in the career of the actress: she is still being removed only within her country, except perhaps the British drama "Zero Theorem."

The film "Babylon of our era", however, helped Melanie to gain a higher status in her homeland. She was more often offered the main roles: for example, in 2010 she played Madame de Montpensier in the historical film "Princess de Montpensier", and in 2011 she got a role in the crime drama "Unfinished Romance."

Actress Yeo as Sister Rebecca

The Malaysian actress of Chinese origin Michelle Yeoh in the fantastic picture of the Frenchman Cassovitz got the role of the Kyrgyz nun Rebecca. That's how things sometimes get confused in Hollywood movies!

Michelle Yeoh has a very interesting biography: she was born in Malaysia, but her parents were pure ethnic Chinese. As a child, Michelle was engaged in ballet, a little later - modern dances. Parents personally took her to a 17-year-old age to enter the London Academy of Dance. But because of a trauma of the spine Michelle lost the opportunity to perform at the best ballet stages in Europe, so the future actress quickly rebuilt and began to make her way to the modeling and film business.

She started filming in the movie in 1984. She has many militants on her account ("Tomorrow Never Dies", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"), in which Yeo demonstrates his beautiful physical form. By the way, Michelle is the only actress, whom the famous Jackie Chan in his films allowed himself to develop the trick part.

Gerard Depardieu as Gorsky

The film "Babylon of our era" was not without the French movie star. This invited celebrity was Gerard Depardieu.

Depardieu in a fantastic picture Kassovitsa played a Russian by the name of Gorsky, which, by the way, the actor does not for the first time: he also played Grigory Rasputin in the Russian film "Rasputin" and Zhora in the sitcom "Zaitsev + 1". So in the film Cassovica Gerard, most likely, practiced before a whole string of "Russian" roles in the future.

However, famous for Depardieu is not by these screen characters. Viewers from all over the world know the French actor as the main actor in the comedy "Between the Angel and the Devil" directed by Jean-Marie Poiret, "Unlucky" and "Pope" by Francis Weber, and also as Obelix from the series of family films "Asterix and Obelix."

But cooperation with Russian directors did not pass for Gerard without a trace: he was so attached to Russia that in 2013 he even received Russian citizenship. And a little later he refused the French, having justified his decision by the fact that the current France with its values does not inspire him. Despite the provocative statements of Depardieu, the actor is very willing to invite to the shooting in French and European cinema: in 2015 Gerard appeared in the melodrama "Valley of Love", in 2016 he will act in the Italian film "The Creator: The Past", and will also star In the Russian film "Sport without Borders".

Charlotte Rampling as a priestess of noeliths

In the film "Babylon of our era" the actors Vin Diesel and Melanie Thierry hide from the sect of noelites. The image of the insidious priestess of this community on the screens was embodied by a British actress named Charlotte Rampling.

The woman began her acting career back in 1966. Since then, the actress has played many famous roles: Irene Adler in the Sherlock Holmes Detective in New York, Anne in the thriller "Spy Games", Milena in the film "Basic Instinct 2" and Etc.

Wilson as the genius doctor

Lambert Wilson in the tape "Babylon of our era" played a brilliant doctor - the creator of the Aurora. After all, in fact, the brain of a unique girl is a computer. This machine was invented by Dr. Arthur Darkwandir, whose image was embodied by Lambert Wilson. But then the scientist was separated from his "invention", and only after many years he has the opportunity to help Tourop and Aurora to nurture a new human race, created in the likeness of a girl.

Wilson is a French actor. His most memorable role is Mierovingen from the series "Matrix".

Other performers of roles

Also in the creation of Mathieu Cassovitz, you can see a French professional athlete named Jerome le Banne. Jerome is a great master in kickboxing and boxing. He was invited to the project to participate in spectacular battles.

In addition, actors such as Mark Strong (Robin Hood), Dmitry Voronkov, David Belle (Malavita) and Jan Unger (The Blood Countess - Batory) appear in the frame.

Apparently, the cast of the picture is not so bad, so the reason for the failure of the project is hard to be called. Most likely, the script, which even in the form of the annotation looks extremely improbably, and in places even ridiculously has let down. And since it's hard to believe what is happening on the screen, it means that the misadventures of the main characters will leave the viewer indifferent.
