This expression was first used in the USA in the early nineties. Then at the height of popularity was the rapper 2Pac, who so named his group.

However, his translation was somewhat different. Initially, another meaning was embedded in the expression Thug Life, what it is - we'll go into more detail later. In fact, this phrase is not 2, but 8 words. Literally, the translation will not be given, since it is not very decent. In terms of this abbreviation stands for: the hatred that you put in children, is returned to you. The rapper chose tougher words, in his own style.

Thug Life in rap culture

Tupac Shakur put several meanings in Thug Life. What is it in terms of the history of rap? That's how he called his band, in which the cousin of the performer Mopreme Shakur and the reps of Big Syke, Macadoshis, Rated R. were collected. The first two years the repertoire of rappers worked on the first album, which was released in 1994.

Immediately after this event the quintet disintegrated, as Tupac was threatened with a real prison sentence. Several times he tried to reassemble the team, but the rappers refused. They tried to start a solo career, but they can not be called successful musicians.

History of the movement

If you ask the Americans: Thug Life - what it is, in most cases you will not be told about a little-known rap group, but the movement created by Shakur in the early nineties. The first thoughts about the need to create a social movement came to Tupac's head back in 1992, he discussed this idea with his stepfather, who at that time was in prison.

At the same time, he began to act and even managed to reconcile the leaders of the two warring factions Crips and Bloods. They publicly announced that from now on they will adhere to the code created by the rapper. Of course, the rules in each ghetto were adjusted for themselves, but on the whole, the change in the attitude of society towards blacks and tolerance, which in the modern world does not surprise anyone, were born precisely thanks to Tupac.

Why the movement was created

Thug Life was invented for a reason. The attitude of the white Americans to the ghetto at that time was biased. Blacks were considered second-class people who could only rob, kill and distribute narcotic drugs. To educate children from disadvantaged areas was senseless, since problems arose with employment. Marriages in the ghetto were very fragile, because because of the way of life, fathers often went to arrest shortly after the birth of the offspring, and women did not wait for their release. Meanwhile, not everyone wanted to lead this way of life, many tried to fight for their rights.

In 1831, the Americans called the uprising Nate Turner's attempt to defend their rights. Frederick Douglas, Rosa Parks and Malcolm Iks also misunderstood - they were considered a public threat. Even Martin Luther King fell under the wave of misunderstanding of society, was declared a communist and an enemy of America. Similar problems were with Tupac, although he created the movement with good intentions.

Philosophy of Thug Life

The rapper's first mistake was to call his Thug Life movement, his translation was misunderstood, that is, word for word - the life of the bandit. Although in fact he called for the cessation of violence and the education of children in accordance with the new rules. This gave a chance for future generations to achieve more in life than their parents. Modern equality is the fruits that were obtained thanks to Tupac's philosophy.

The movement was based on the idea that even a black man could achieve what he wanted in life. To do this, it is enough to make efforts and strive for a better life. In order not to forget about the ghetto and the struggle for equality, Shakur made himself a tattoo on his stomach with the phrase Thug Life.

Code

To understand what Thug Life is, you can not, if you do not study in detail the code of this community. Its main goal was to unite groups and exclude those who are willing to betray or act not within the framework of existing rules. Most of the code concerned drugs. From the moment it was signed by groups of blacks, strict rules began to operate in the ghetto. Many women did not sell narcotic substances, in others access to them stopped during pregnancy. Children could not get them, although they were sold before in schools.

The Code of Thug Life regulated not only life in the ghetto, but also the principles of the gangs that inhabited these territories. Disputes between groups of blacks began to be decided not by force, but through diplomatic negotiations. For this purpose, a special person was chosen in each gang, settling disputes.

Concerts of rap performers and parties, according to the new rules, have become places where violence is no place. If earlier mass events were accompanied by shooting and stabbing, then from 1992 they began to pass more peacefully. Senseless violence and aggression were excluded from the life of blacks. Undoubtedly it was decided to respect the elders. Those who respect themselves, did not become objects of ridicule and violence, on the contrary, they began to be equal. In general, thanks to the code and the Thug Life movement, the attitude towards blacks in society has gradually changed.
