A broad group of antibiotics includes several subgroups of drugs according to different classes of microorganisms that can cause these or other diseases. These are antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic and antifungal agents. Also a special group consists of antituberculous and antimalarial, which were singled out separately for the degree of danger of these nosological units.

Microbiology of fungi

Pathogenic fungi are microorganisms that parasitize human tissues, causing so-called fungal infections. Preparations

In connection with the wide spread of mycoses of varying degrees of damage and severity, recently began to actively develop antifungal drugs. There are several groups of such medicines. It:

• Polyenes - preparations "Nystatin", "Levorin" (suppositories, granules, powder and tablets), "Amphotericin B" and "Natamycin";
• Imidazoles - agents "Ketoconazole", "Clotrimazole", "Miconazole", "Oksiconazole" and "Bifonazol";
• Triazoles - tablets "Fluconazole" and "Itraconazole";

The polyenes are the most inexpensive. So, the price of "Levorin" in tablets on the market is about 35 rubles per package, and tablets "Nystatin" are worth even less - 10-12 rubles.

Polyenas

From this list, the polyene group of antifungal drugs, that is, Nystatin and Levorin, found the widest application. Instructions for the use of both of them are generally similar. Indications for their use are candidiasis of the gastrointestinal tract (oral cavity, esophagus, intestine), skin and mucous membranes, as well as genital tract in women (vulvovaginitis). They are also used as a component of complex therapy for prostatic hypertrophy in men. For the first group of diseases, they are applied orally, that is, in the form of tablets. But for the treatment of candidiasis of the genital tract, it is more appropriate to apply them locally, that is, in the form of vaginal suppositories.

However, this drug can be taken and prophylactically. Medication "Levorin", the instruction on which application should always be applied when buying a medicine, is prescribed for treatment with antibiotics of a wide spectrum of action, especially long-term. This will prevent the development of candidiasis against a background of pronounced intestinal dysbiosis. For the same purpose, you can apply the course of eubiotics (drops "Hilak forte", capsules "Bifidumbacterin", etc.).

Contraindications

Of course, like all medicines, the antifungal drug "Levorin" also has contraindications. The instructions for the use of this remedy indicate the following conditions in which the intake of this antifungal medicine is strictly forbidden: child age (under 2 years), pregnancy and lactation, hepatic and renal failure, acute bowel disease, peptic ulcer (stomach and / or Duodenal ulcers) and pancreatitis. But in the period of menstruation and in the presence of metrorrhagia, it is impossible to enter vaginally the "Levorin" suppositories. Instructions for use of this drug also indicates possible side effects, namely dyspeptic phenomena (nausea, decreased appetite up to anorexia, diarrhea), headache, and also local irritant effect.

Forms

As already mentioned above, this antifungal agent is available in several dosage forms, namely, there are "Levorin" tablets. The drug's instruction also indicates the presence of granules or powder for the preparation of suspensions (this form is intended for oral administration, is more often used for childhood), lyosilicate (from which solutions are prepared both for oral and topical use) and ointments (used externally) .

This tool has become widespread due to comparative cheapness in the market of medicines (the price of "Levorin" in the form of an ointment is about 20 rubles). And since in the absence of neglected forms of candidiasis, it has sufficient efficiency and ease of application, this served as an occasion for even greater popularity. The drug "Levorin", reviews of which are mostly positive, is the most famous among the non-medical contingent antifungal agent.

How it works

The mechanism of action of the drug "Levorin" is quite simple. The fact is that its active substance has a specific tropicity to the sterol compounds contained in the fungal cell membranes. Thus, it sharply increases their permeability and, as a result, causes cell death. The maximum efficacy of this agent is documented in candidiasis caused by Candida albicans. However, with some protozoal infections (leishmaniasis, amebiasis, trichomoniasis), the Levorin drug can also be used.

The instructions for use, applied to the drug, also indicate its effectiveness in the complex therapy of prostatic adenoma. With this disease, the drug reduces the severity of dysuric disorders of patients and in some cases can cause the reverse development of adenoma, that is, its hypotrophy. However, of course, to treat such a serious pathology by itself is by no means impossible. It requires the diagnosis and consultation of an experienced graduate.
