Modest monuments, known only to local residents and relatives of soldiers who found the last refuge far from their native places. Kromy-Orel-Mtsensk (October 1941)

The offensive of the tank group Guderian on the Eagle developed rapidly. Orel land can be called the birthplace of the Guards' units - in November 1941 Katukov's brigade was named the 1st Guards.

After 74 years, the names of the dead Red Army soldiers were installed and listed in the graves of the Oryol region buried in mass graves.

From Bolkhov to Novosil (January-March 1942)

The exhausting battles of the autumn-winter of 1941 culminated in the stabilization of the front along the rivers Oka and Zusha. At the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, a plan for the Bolhov offensive operation is being developed, which ran from January to March 1942. The offensive was unsuccessful, the strength of the Germans was great, and the losses of the Red Army were colossal. About 30 thousand Red Army men were killed or disappeared without a trace. Literally in every village from Bolkhov to Novosil there are mass graves. Orel region had to bury in their land tens of thousands of soldiers.

Krivtsovsky memorial is a tribute to the heroism of the defenders of the Motherland. More than 20,000 Red Army soldiers who died in the course of the failed offensive were buried here. Memories of these days have been preserved in the memory of local residents. The banks of the rivers Oka and Zusha they until our time are called "valley of death". Memories of war can not be erased. It is reminded of modest obelisks, staring red at the sky. Bagrinovo, Fatnevo, Krivtsovo, Chegodaevo - unknown villages carefully preserve the memory of their defenders and the bloody battles that the Orel region suffered. On the Mtsensk land (1943)

In the middle of 1943, the bloody wheel of war rolled backwards. The victories and losses of the Red Army are told by the mass graves of the Orel region. Mtsensk district, the advancing advanced units reached in mid-July. Completely it was cleared of enemy troops on August 2.

Land of exploits

On the map of military graves you can study the history of military operations in Orlovschina. In each village, along roads, at low altitudes and among forests there are modest mournful obelisks, under each of which is buried the personal story of broken biographies. Hundreds of surnames retain military memorials on commemorative plaques.

And quite near - the mass graves in the villages of Karaulovka, Rodionovka, Andriyanovo. Terrible statistics - for the release of these villages, more people died than some of them now live.

Guards Orel

On August 5, 1943, the Soviet troops liberated the Eagle. Each piece of land was abundantly watered with blood - 50 days of the Orel-Kursk battle gathered a mournful tribute to human losses. Later, it was calculated that on each square kilometer of Orlovschiny were injured 50 people, and 20 more were killed. The memory of them is preserved by the mass graves of the Orel region.

The names of 30 dead fighters are immortalized on a granite slab. The search continues

In May 2016, in the Znamensky district, a search detachment discovered an unknown place until the death of Soviet soldiers. In the forest between the villages of Elenka and Peshkovo were found the remains of 13 Red Army men, fighters of the 18th Guards Rifle Corps. The surviving documents established the names and date of death - 1943, July 20. On the site of the mass grave a plate with the names of the dead will be installed, information about them will be recorded in all databases, and in the list of memorable places of Orlovschiny there will be another address - a forest near the village of Elenka. After all, the war is not over until the last soldier is buried.

Memory

The time that has passed since the end of the Great Patriotic War, could not erase the memory of her and the names of the heroes who gave their lives. On Victory Day and the City's liberation from fascists, people are eager to express their gratitude to the liberators and visit the mass graves of the Orel region.

Photo and newsreel, documents, eyewitness accounts and personal belongings of heroes are carefully kept in the Oryol museums. Soldier's letters and jammed yellowed photographs in old albums are family relics, as a reminder of the difficult life of previous generations. The preservation of memory is a small payment for a peaceful sky and the opportunity to live on one's native land.
