The capital of Seychelles: location, sights, features

The capital of the Seychelles is a small town, which is buried in a tropical lush greenery - called Victoria. It was founded in the 18th century, when French forwarders landed on these lands. They were followed by the colonists, who formed a full-fledged settlement on this site. Later the land became the property of England, as a result of which this settlement was named after the British Queen Victoria. Today, the capital of the Seychelles is between the mountains that surround it on three sides. And with the fourth it is washed by the waters of the Gulf of the Indian Ocean.

How to get to Victoria?

To get to this town you can, as in any other remote from us point, on the plane, however, you will have to fly with a transfer. Bangkok, Paris, London, Johannesburg, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan and Frankfurt - that is from what cities the flights take the capital of the Seychelles. The airport is located on the island of Mahe, near Victoria, so getting to the city after landing will be quick and easy (by taxi or public transport). At the airport there are three terminals - international, cargo and home. It was founded in 1972 by the order of the British Queen Elizabeth II.

Weather

The capital of the Seychelles is ready to receive tourists all year round, every day without exception. The air temperature here is always approximately the same, and the annual fluctuations are only a few degrees. In January-February, a maximum of 31-32 degrees above zero is recorded. A little cooler (which does not feel at all) here in July and August. The temperature drops to 28-29 degrees Celsius. The water temperature in the bay is always stable-28-29 degrees.

Hotel question

Now consider what housing conditions the Seychelles can offer us. Victoria - the capital - is the most built-up city in the whole archipelago. There are hotels of various categories, ranging from two stars, ending with fashionable bungalows and cottages. The first are located in the city, close to the center, or in the sleeping areas. If you are planning an economical holiday in the Seychelles, then you need to book a room here. Cottages, penthouses, bungalows and simply expensive hotels are located on the ocean, of course, with a stunning view from the window. However, in comparison with other world resorts (Bahamas, Canary Islands and so on), prices for renting even the most elite housing here are not too high.

Restaurants and cafes

The cuisine that tourists can offer the capital of the Seychelles is very exotic and original, but still acceptable for our stomachs. The food that is on the move here is coconuts, seafood and spices called curry. Local restaurateurs are not particularly refined, and in order to feed tourists, as a rule, they combine elements of Creole and European cuisines. In an institution called Islander, you can eat very economically at any time of the day. It serves both ordinary burgers, as well as more exotic dishes, which gravitate according to the type of cooking to the local indigenous cuisine. In the Marie Antoinete restaurant you can taste truly Creole cuisine, with all its spices and features. But La Perle Noir is famous for its high prices and first-class service. It is an ideal place for a romantic evening.

The city's attractions

Once the capital of the Seychelles was founded by the French. Their colony was evicted on the shores of the island of Mahe, and in honor of the development of new lands, the Stone of Possession was established. Today it is a memorable place for all Seychelles. If you walk along the central avenue of the city, you will certainly meet a mini copy of Big Ben, the one that is in England. Next to him is definitely worth a photo for memory. Also the numerous capitals, and most importantly, belonging to different religions, boast the capital of the Seychelles. Photos of the city show us that the streets have the following sacred buildings: the Indian pagoda, the English church of St. Paul, the Catholic Cathedral and the adjacent episcopate. Here you can see beautiful images that imitate biblical stories.

Shopping

All the purchases that can be made in Victoria, and in general in the Seychelles - are souvenirs of local manufacture, knickknacks, food, as well as national costumes and paraphernalia. There are no shops, no shopping centers, no boutiques here, but benches with products of author's production are at every step. Honestly, buying souvenirs here is not so interesting. They are not as bright and original as in India or in Thailand. But the national Seychellois hats are a real memory of the rest here. And there is such a thing at all cheap. Also note that you can weave it yourself. Local residents are ready to provide a free master class for weaving such hats, and you will become a master no worse than themselves.

Travel and entertainment

If you are planning an economical vacation, then most likely, you will not leave Mahe. The very capital of the Seychelles - Victoria (see photo in the article) - scant nightlife. Because tourists go to the west of the island, to the Intendence Gulf. There are 24-hour bars, restaurants, nightclubs and other entertainment venues. Also famous is the bay itself. Emerald waters that wash white coral sand, can not leave anyone indifferent. You can swim in the sea at any time of day. Storms do not happen, as it is a cozy bay, because it is also an ideal place to relax with children.
