"Teachings for children" is a great book with a thousand-year history

The book "The Teachings for the Children" was written at the very beginning of the second millennium, but its content can be called actual for today. Its author is Vladimir Monomakh, a prince who was born in 1053. During his long life (he lived a little more than seventy years), this great man gained enough wisdom and experience to share them with the children of Rus, to give them their knowledge, thoughts and abilities.

Examples from life in the book

As already mentioned above, in modern times, the relevance and popularity of the book "Teachings to children" is noted. Its brief content is that the prince expresses his thoughts, gives advice and instruction, and gives examples from his own life. Probably, that is why the book became so popular, as few of today's authors who try to give any recommendations to their readers have an actual basis. As for the prince himself, his advice is effective, and he proves it with truthful stories from his own life.

How it all began...

The book "Teaching to the children" originates during one of many trips. Monomakh travels to the Volga, where he meets with the ambassadors of his brothers. They offer Vladimir the unification of military forces in order to assign a volost belonging to Rostislavich. If he responds negatively to their proposal, he will be deprived of all kinds of support in the event that war breaks out in his native territories. Returning home, the prince was quite disappointed, because the internecine strife, as well as military actions against the brothers did not please his heart. In sad reflections, he opened the Psalter and began to read. It was at this moment that he had the desire to leave a message to the descendants of the generation of that day.

What is the essence of a righteous life?

The book "Teachings for Children" includes several clever sayings that have not lost their significance to this day. First of all, the children and grandchildren of Russia, the prince calls for them to always act conscientiously and never give up such virtues as duty and honor, valor and justice. Of course, he describes these thoughts from the point of view of religion, but morality in them from this does not become less. Monomakh says that God's mercy comes not only when a person is a reclusive way of life, constantly fasting and becoming a monk, but also in the performance of good deeds. That is, even if people do not follow their food, sometimes they forget to pray or about another important element, then it is enough for them to help their neighbor, and not for God to thank them, but with sincere desire and of good will.

Practical tips

Do not deprive and practice the advice that Monomakh gave. "Teachings for children" contains the following recommendations from the prince:

- Honor the elders;

- during wars rely only on themselves, and not on the governor, establishing clear rules and following them;

- Do not put off your arms when the door is troubled times;

- to love the spouse, but not to allow her to rule over the head of the family;

- Do not allow your servants and wards to perform various bad actions on peasants (bullying, violence, etc.).

Do not be afraid of death ...

When Monomakh finished the book "Teaching to the children," he wrote a story about himself. At the end, the prince asked his grandchildren to not judge him. He described many of his exploits, but not at all in order to boast of descendants, but as an example. And ended the story with thoughts that one should not be afraid of death, for only God can decide when to break off someone's life, and there is no point in frightening or arguing with his will.
