Summary of "Petit Rostov" - an excerpt from the novel "War and Peace"

Petya Rostov is not the main character in Leo Tolstoy's novel War and Peace. But it is the chapters describing his stay in Denisov's detachment and the tragic death that fully reveal the inhumanity and cruelty of any war. We offer a summary of "Petit Rostov" - 7-9 chapters 3 of part 4 of the volume.

In the detachment of Denisov

Since Petya Rostov got into his regiment, and then into the army, he was in an excited and joyful state. However, it always seemed to him that the most heroic thing was happening somewhere, without him. Therefore, having learned about sending a person to Denisov, Petya began to tell the general that it should be him. The request was granted, but with the condition not to participate in the detachment's actions and, after completing the assignment, immediately go back. So begins "Petya Rostov", an excerpt from the novel "War and Peace".

When Denisov asked the hero if he could stay, the hero mingled. Going into the detachment, Petya was sure that he would immediately return. But when he saw the French and learned that there was going to be an attack this night, the young man decided that the general he respected up to that day was a shit, and Denisov and his comrades were heroes. Therefore, you can not leave the detachment at any time that is difficult for him.

During the dinner

The summary of Petit Rostov continues with the description of the conversation that took place in the guardhouse.

In the hut the officers arranged a table, on which were vodka and rum, bread and fried lamb. Petya ate fragrant meat, and it seemed to him that at that moment he was in love with all people. The young man turned to Davydov and asked him to send him to the main ... and give the command. During the conversation he gave one of his officers a folding knife, and then he remembered about the suit he brought with him: "I'm used to chewing something sweet." And he also promised to send a coffee pot, which he recently bought from the marquee.

The summary of Petit Rostov continues with a description of the awkward moment for a young man. He remembered the captive French boy and doubted whether it was any shame to ask officers about him. Finally, blushing, he asked if he could be brought into the hut. And having received permission and having kissed the happiness of Denisov, he ran to the street.

Visenya - so nicknamed the soldiers of the prisoner - was sitting by the fire. Petya invited him to the guardhouse, assuring that nothing bad would be done to him. Indeed, the boy was fed, dressed in a caftan and decided to leave at the party. All this time, the hero tried not to pay attention to the Frenchman, but thought about whether it was appropriate to give him money.

Meeting with Dolokhov: a summary

Petya Rostov heard a lot about this man, and when he entered the hut, the hero was amazed at the simplicity of his appearance. The Guards officer was shaved, George the coat wore a buttonhole, and on his head was a simple cap. Dolokhov took off his burka and began questioning Denisov about the state of affairs. We talked about the arrival of Rostov, the answers to the generals, the state of the enemy's troops. After listening, Dolokhov said that it was necessary to accurately determine the composition of the latter, so he suggested that someone from those present should go with him to the reconnaissance. Petya immediately cried out: "I am!", Which caused Denisov's displeasure.

Noticing the drummer, the officer began to talk about the irrationality of leaving prisoners alive. Denisov, who held a different point of view, entered into a dispute with him, during which Petya was thinking. He did not understand much of what he had heard and carried everything to the fact that big everyone knows. At the same time he decided to confront Denisov and go to the reconnaissance. Finally, Dolokhov directly asked Rostov: "Are we going?" And the young man at the same time gave an affirmative answer.

In exploration: a summary

Petya Rostov and Dolokhov changed into French uniforms and, having passed the camp, headed for the bridge. "We'll get caught - we will not give up alive," whispered the young man. Suddenly a shout was heard in French. Dolokhov confidently explained that he was behind his comrade from his regiment and would like to find a colonel. The sentry replied that the command was in the manor-house, and the riders went on.

In the yard of the farm there was a fire, at which several people were sitting. Dolokhov started talking with them. How many Russians are on the road, what is the state of affairs in the army, how many prisoners in the detachment are its brief contents. Petya Rostov - Tolstoy repeatedly stresses this - was afraid that now their deception will be revealed, but kept steadfast. But the officer was questioning everything. Finally, he said goodbye, and the riders moved on. At the bridge, Dolokhov asked Denisov to tell him that in the morning he would have to step on the signal, but he himself remained on this side.

Night before the fight

The summary of Petit Rostov continues to describe the feelings that gripped the hero in front of an important event for him.

Denisov was very worried in anticipation of the young man, therefore, after making sure that the reconnaissance had passed normally, he fell asleep. And Petya, still impressed, went to the yard, where he told the Cossack sitting under the truck about the trip. Then he asked me to sharpen my saber and sat down beside me. Rostov suddenly thought that he was in some magical world, where instead of the guard was a cave, instead of a fire - the eye of a monster, and he was sitting on a high tower. Everything around was unreal, and Petya closed his eyes. A solemn music sounded in his head, which grew louder and more distinct. Finally, he realized that it was in a dream. Through the dozing, he directed the sounds, listening to their beauty. Quite another boy, kind, open and far from the world of cruelty, in which he turned out - this may be the character's characteristic at that moment.

Petya Rostov woke up from the voice of Likhachev, who sharpened his sword. Jumping up, he saw that the Cossacks were preparing horses, and Denisov came out of the guardhouse.

In battle

Sitting in the saddle, Rostov again asked Denisov to give some assignment, the same ordered to stay close and not to go anywhere. However, when the signal shot rang out, Petya rushed forward. He crossed the bridge and did not understand where his own, and where the enemies. Jumping to the crowd, I saw the Frenchman clutching the shaft of the peak pointed at him. This further enticed the young man, and with a shout of "Hurray!" He rushed to the place where the most shots were heard. In the courtyard of the manor house, Dolokhov noticed that he ordered the infantry to wait. But Petya possessed such a feeling that he did not listen to the officer, but all with the same cry went on. Suddenly the young man began to wag his arms strangely, releasing the reins, and to lose his saddle. At that moment, when the horse stopped in front of a decaying fire, Petya fell. His legs and arms twitched, although his head did not move: a bullet hit her. So very young Petya Rostov died.

The excerpt from the novel "War and Peace" ends with Dolokhov approaching the already dead boy and after saying: "Ready" gave the order not to take the wounded. And Denisov, who had arrived, turned his pale face to the young man's face, then quickly turned away and walked away, making sounds resembling a dog barking.
