"Stoptopsin" - the trade name of the drug, which consists of the main active ingredients - butamirate and guaifenesin.

The drug is available in the form of drops that are taken orally. Stoptussin is a clear liquid, viscous consistency from light to dark yellow color.

Pharmacotherapeutic group and pharmacodynamics. Stoptussin is a combined preparation. He has both antitussive and expectorant action, which can be understood from the very name. Literally, "stoptussin" is translated as "stop cough" (Tussis in Latin means "cough").

Butamirite has local anesthetic properties on the nerve endings of the external (mucous) membrane of the bronchi, providing an antitussive effect. Guaifenesin increases bronchial secretion and makes mucus less viscous. He also stimulates the secretion of secretions from the bronchial glands, and also reflexively irritates the parasympathetic fibers of the gastric mucosa and depresses the center of respiration. As a result, the secretion of the bronchi increases, which facilitates the release of mucus from the respiratory tract and its cough.

Up to 7 kg - for 7-8 drops 3-4 r / day,

8-12 kg - 9-10 drops of 3-4 rubles.,

21-30 kg - 15 drops of 3-4 r.

31-40 kg - 17 drops of 3-4 r.

Between each reception should take six to eight hours. During treatment, you need to consume a large amount of fluid.

Side effects. As a rule, the drug is well tolerated. Occasionally, diarrhea, nausea, pain in the stomach, decreased appetite, headache, skin rash.

Overdose. When an overdose occurs symptoms of toxic effects of guaifenesin on the body, such as drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness, urolithiasis. There is no specific antidote for guaifenesin, so you should immediately contact a specialist doctor. It is recommended that you immediately rinse your stomach and take activated charcoal. Interaction with medicinal products. Guaifenesin increases the effect of alcohol, acetylsalicylic acid, paracetamol, sedatives, hypnotics and muscle relaxants.

"Stopptissin syrup" contains liquid extracts of plantain, thyme and thyme and is also called "Stoptussin Fito". This syrup contains 3.4% ethanol, but because of the presence of sucrose, it is contraindicated in patients with diabetes mellitus.
