"Stendhal Syndrome" - a step in the creative career of Asia Argento

"Italian Hitchcock", "Visconti Violence" - honorary nicknames, which fans awarded Dario Argento, Italian director and screenwriter, as well as the father of Asia Argento - one of the most popular to date actresses in the world of cinema. The outstanding master of horrors in 1996 has removed a psychological thriller "Syndrome of Stendhal" in which the role of the main heroine was played by his daughter. By the time the tape was created, Asia already had a very decent working experience in film. She started filming in TV movies as a 9-year-old girl. Later there were the films "Heart Friends", "Trauma", "Queen Margot", who brought the young actress fame and the first Italian film award for the role of Arianna in the film "Let's not meet again". Of course, the director offered his role in the movie "Stendhal Syndrome" to his daughter quite justifiably. It was from Asia, he expected the maximum embodiment of the image of police inspector Anna, who is engaged in the search for a killer maniac. It should be noted, a talented and beautiful actress with the task assigned to her coped. Despite the fact that screening of any literary work is not an easy occupation, especially the screen version of the novel written by Graziella Magherini, the Italian psychiatrist, Asia managed to play an extremely impressionable girl Anna, to whom works of art are so strongly influenced that she experiences Stendhal's syndrome.

This term in psychiatry is usually called a condition, first described by a French classic.
Symptoms of the syndrome - frequent palpitations, dizziness, hallucinations - are manifested in subtly sensing natures when examining paintings of painters, other art objects, beautiful landscapes. A similar condition is experienced by the heroine of the painting in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. And then there is the first meeting with an extraordinary maniac called Alfredo Grossi, whose role was played by the German actor Thomas Krechmann. The meeting planned by the killer is the beginning of a bloody horror in which the creators of the film "Stendhal Syndrome" slowly immerse both characters and spectators. In the course are the intensity of the plot, special effects and a bizarre visual series, accompanied by disturbing music by Ennio Marricone. In a haunting atmosphere, reminiscent of a nightmare, unfolding dramatic events ...

The film "Stendhal Syndrome" was never a big hit, but it did not go unnoticed by fans of the genre.
The excellent work of the entire film crew, especially the professionalism of the operator and the high level of the actor's play of the young singer Anna, were the factors that ensured the success of the picture in the late 90s and did not leave indifferent admirers of the work of the Italian director and his daughter to this day.

Asia Argento was able to subtly show the changes in the psyche of her heroine, who first experienced an acute encounter with the canvases of great painters, as if "entered" into the picture, and then slowly entered the image of her tormentor-killer maniac. For the actress perfectly played the most complicated role in the tape "Stendhal's Syndrome" (1996) was an undoubted success, a kind of step that allowed us to rise to the heights of acting and make a dizzying career in a big cinematography.
