Station "Roman": metro and attractions of the Rogozhskaya Zastava

In the capital of the Russian Federation, there are not so many infrastructure facilities whose names are connected with the capitals of other states. But they are, and an example of this is the station "Roman". Metro in Moscow, in addition to it, has three more stations with similar names - "Prague", "Riga" and "Alma-Ata". While nothing is known about whether there will ever be such items anymore, or the tradition will not receive continuation ...

Moscow metro map: "Roman" at the Rogozhskaya outpost

Metro station "Roman" Lublin-Dmitrov line took the first passengers two days before the new 1996. It is located between the stops "Krestyanskaya Zastava" and "Chkalovskaya" and is a transition to the "Square of Ilich" of the Kalinin line. Often you have to hear questions about what caused the choice of such, not quite traditional toponym - "Roman"? Metro "Rogozhskaya Zastava" - by the name of the historic district of Moscow, where it is located - would be much more appropriate. By the way, this is how the future station was designated in the project documentation. But the priority was the political desire of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov to make a noble gesture toward a friendly country. So in Moscow there was a station "Roman". Metro station of Rome station "Moscow" does not have, but there is evidence that such an object there will soon appear. As a response gesture. It will be called "Moscow", and will not be located somewhere, but in the heart of the Italian capital, not far from the Vatican.

Architectural features

By its constructive solution, "Roman" represents a columned three-vaulting station of deep occurrence. It would be surprising if the architectural solution of this object did not contain in itself any elements that make one recall the ancient classics and the imperial grandeur of ancient Rome. That is why the predominant finishing material of interior decoration here is chosen marble light color palette. It can be seen on columns and pilasters uniformly located throughout the space of the main hall. The floor covering is recruited from alternating granite slabs of gray, black and reddish shades.

Fountain

The design of the station was made by famous Italian designers in the interiors of Cuatrocci and Imbrigi. This circumstance makes even more justified its name - "Roman". Metro in Moscow is filled with a significant number of unique works of art and other artifacts. These include unique interior solutions, sculptures, mosaic panels. But the fountain in the underground Moscow exists only in one copy, and you can see it at the metro station "Rimskaya". And besides the fountain, there is also a sculptural composition with capitals of the columns. Her main characters are the babies Romulus and Remus, who are considered the founders of Rome. The author of the work is the sculptor L. Berlin. This sculptural composition looks very specific in the Moscow metro.

Metro station "Roman": exits to the city

In the northern part of the main hall there is a transfer to the station "Ploshchad Ilicha" of the Kalininskaya line. Exit to the city is carried out from the opposite side. The escalator delivers passengers to the ground vestibule, the exit from which leads on the highway Enthusiasts, the streets of Rabochy and the International, as well as the Rogozhskaya outpost and the railway platform "Hammer and Sickle" of the Gorky direction. In the immediate vicinity there is also the platform "Moscow-Commodity" of the Kursk direction. The modern area of the historic Rogozhskaya outpost is a pretty lively place. Here many administrative and commercial structures, business centers and supermarkets, offices of notary's offices and law firms are concentrated.

sights

By coincidence of historical circumstances, the "Roman" metro station of the Lublin-Dmitrovskaya line was located in the very center of the old Moscow region that was formed in the Middle Ages. It was called Rogozhka, or Rogozhskaya Sloboda, and was known as a traditional place of residence of Russian Old Believers. But today, here mostly reminds them of the Rogozhskoe cemetery with the church, where the service is conducted according to the canons of the old rite. Undoubtedly, the most important historical sight of the area is the Spaso-Andronicus monastery located here. It was founded in the middle of the fourteenth century and is named after one of the closest associates and followers of Sergius of Radonezh, hegumen Andronicus. Among other things, the monastery is known as the place of detention of the head of the Russian split of Archpriest Avvakum. The Spassky Cathedral of the Andronikov Monastery is one of the oldest religious buildings on the territory of Moscow. Neighboring with Rogozhskaya Sloboda is the no less famous Moscow district of Lefortovo. Traditionally settled here came from Germany and other European countries.
