Spermicide lubricant: what is it?
Spermicide lubrication is one of the ways to protect against unwanted pregnancy. How to apply it? What are its features?
What is spermicide lubricant?
The agent immobilizes and destroys the sperm. But this is not just a contraceptive. Spermicidal lubrication also improves the gliding of the penis (i.e., acts as a lubricant). A similar effect is possessed by many substances. It is very popular with benzalkonium chloride. The drug also acts on sticks, staphylococci and other "harmful" and opportunistic bacteria. That is, in addition to the fact that the spermicide destroys the heads and flagella of spermatozoa, it gives some protection against STIs. The product is available both as a lubricant, and in the form of creams, suppositories, tablets, tampons and capsules.
How to use spermicide?
One of the most popular methods of protection - spermicide sponges, which provide two levels of protection. Special impregnation kills spermatozoa. Also, due to the fact that the sponge is located right next to the cervix, a certain mechanical obstruction is provided. In addition, the product absorbs ejaculate, which also affects the effectiveness of the method.
First, the sponge should be moistened with water, then - put into the vagina so that it covers the cervix. Conveniently, spermicides in other forms of release are only suitable for single use. That is, with the second act you need to introduce an additional dose of the drug. Given that creams and candles have a strong moisturizing effect, and the vagina contains sperm remnants, a woman may experience discomfort after re-injecting the drug. The sponge suffices for several acts within 24 hours.
Condoms with spermicide lubrication
It's no secret that condoms are a very effective method of barrier contraception, which reliably protects both from pregnancy and from STDs. But sometimes (often due to improper use) condom can tear. If you used conventional condoms, you will most likely have to use emergency contraception to avoid pregnancy.
But if you have chosen contraceptives with which spermicide lubricant 9-nonoxinol is used, the probability of fertilization is extremely low. The agent immobilizes spermatozoa and destroys them, so even if the condom is torn, you are protected. Of course, 100% guarantee is impossible. If pregnancy is extremely undesirable, you still need to take appropriate measures.
