Single-shot hunting rifle IZH-18E: characteristics and order of disassembly

The IZH-18E gun can be called a kind of beginning for a hunter. Many made their first sorties with him and very well speak about this weapon. Its mechanism is simple and trouble-free, and it is for this that hunters like IZH-18E.

History

Hunting rifles IZ have a long history, which began in the sixties of last century. Model IZH-18 was produced at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant since 1964. This gun took the best from its predecessors: IZhK, ZKB, IZH-17, IZH-5 and others, but also new design features were introduced. IZH-18 is safer when firing, has a more reliable shock-trigger mechanism and a smaller mass in comparison with its predecessors.

IZHMEHH positioned the gun as a weapon, designed for a long life. Guarantee shot him at two thousand shots more than previous models of IZH: eight thousand against six.

New model

The basic model (IZH-18) underwent various changes to improve its characteristics. Since 1970, the production of the modification IZH-18E started, in the construction of which an extractor and an ejector mechanism were added.

About shooting and calibers

Hunting rifles IZh-18E single-barreled, single-charge, with an internal trigger. Initially, weapons were produced for all calibers, mainly used in the Soviet Union: the 32nd, 28th, 20th, 16th and 12th. Now one of the most popular is the 16-caliber IZh-18E. The chamber was reamed under the sleeve 70 mm. In all calibers it was a paper sleeve, and only in a 32-gauge rifle - brass. In commercial hunting, mainly brass casings are used. Some indicators of combat are reduced, for example, accuracy and uniformity, but not so much that it could affect the results of hunting. The cheapest, and therefore beneficial for the fishery is the use of the caps under the capsule "Centroboy".

The length of the barrel for calibers 16 and 12 is 725-735 mm, and the muzzle constriction is 1 and 0.5 mm, respectively. For the 32nd, 28th and 20th the length of the barrel is 675-680 mm, and the muzzle constriction at the guns of all these gauges is the same - 0.5 mm. The weight of the gun is relatively small: 2.8 kg for the calibers 12, 16 and 12 "Magnum"; A 32-caliber rifle, as well as the 28th, 20th and 20th Magnum weighs 2.6 kg.

It is always important to select the correct fraction. The formula is as follows: divide the weight of the gun by 96 (for a 12-gauge shotgun) or 100 (if the caliber is 16th). In turn, dividing the resulting number by the weight of the fraction, we get the indicator of the amount of gunpowder. The weight of a shotgun for active or commercial hunting should be 25 times less than the weight of an arrow (and 22 times less for other cases). In principle, if you take into account all these figures, there is not much difference what to wear: IZh-18E 32 caliber or 12th.

Security

IZH-18E has a large set of tools to ensure the safety of the shooter. The barrel is locked on the barrel hook. There is also a mechanism that does not allow for a shot if the barrel is not locked completely. There is an automatic button-type fuse, which locks the trigger and whisper. In the event of mechanical impact on the gun (blows, falling, etc.), there will not be a shot, even if the trigger has already been cocked, as it will automatically fall onto the safety platoon without touching the striker. This set of security features is especially important to the novice, who has not yet acquired the honed skills of working with a gun.

The trigger is in the shoe. The boom and the trigger are made separately. After the shot, under the influence of the spring, the striker retreats and the trigger is released. The trigger has a smooth descent to make a shot, you need to turn off the fuse, first cocking the trigger, drown the control lever to the end, then pull the trigger, then you can smoothly lower the lever.

In the work

IZH 18E has a simple and reliable shock-trigger mechanism. The trigger is located inside, with the striker made separately. When you press the locking lever, it is cocked. Thus, for cocking it is not necessary to break the rifle, it can be done simply by pressing the locking lever. If the cocking is done, a characteristic click will be heard. After the shot is fired, the hammer returns to its original position.

The aiming is done through the orientation to the cylindrical fly and the protrusion of the shoe.

The lodge of a wooden shotgun, as a rule, is made of beech or birch wood, and the neck has a pistol shape, the straight is less common.

Differences from its predecessor

As mentioned above, the IZH-18E differs from the IZh-18 by the presence of an ejector. The ejector, or reflector, guides the fired sleeve so that it flies outward, usually through a special window in the receiver. However, in IZH-18E, the sleeve is removed when the barrel is unlocked. This increased the convenience of weapons, as well as the speed of recharging, which is very important in commercial hunting. The ejector can be switched off if there is such a need: at the bottom of the shoe is a lever that switches the ejector modes. To turn it off, you need to move the lever to the rear position, but it is worth remembering that during the next rifle break it will be switched on automatically, so the shutdown is possible only for one shot!

Subsequent modifications

In 1983, the fore and neck of the bed were strengthened, the new model was called IZH-18EM. For stand shooting , a special modification IZH-18EM-M "Sporting" was produced. In addition to sports shooting, it could be used for hunting, and for women and adolescents IG-18M-M "Junior" gun was produced. It is lighter, the barrel is shorter, has a 20 gauge and rubber shock absorber on the butt on the rear side.

There is also a modification of IZH-18EM-M under the "Magnum" sleeves with a barrel length of 76 mm. From it, you can also shoot cartridges with a length of 70 mm, but the accuracy of shooting can be reduced by 5-10%

Disassembly

As well as in the case of any other firearms, incomplete and complete dismantling of the IZh-18E gun can be made. Frequent full disassembly does not influence the condition of the mechanisms in the best way, it contributes to a rapid wear, so it is resorted to only when it is necessary to thoroughly clean all working mechanisms and parts, or when repairing, if adjustment or replacement of parts is required. When storing and transporting the gun, it suffices to incomplete disassembly, in which the IZH-18E is dismantled for the main parts: fore-end, box with box and trunk. In order to separate these three parts from each other, it is necessary to put the gun barrel up, hold the trunk with your left hand above the forearm, and with your right hand, turn the latch over the head and then remove the forearm, then press the locking lever and divide the trunk and the box.

By doing this, you can attach the forearm to the trunk and pack the rifle in the cover. If long-term storage is to be carried out, springs must be released. Pressing the end of the locking lever with your left thumb, you need to press the latch in the box, and then - to the trigger and gently release the lever to its original position. The trigger will be smoothly lowered, and the springs (combat, cockpit and cocking lever spring) will be relaxed.

Cleaning the gun after firing and lubrication does not imply a complete disassembly, for this it is enough to disconnect the box and the receiver.

A few rules

With complete disassembly, it is first of all necessary to follow the basic rules of disassembling the weapon: carry it out on a clean, dry table or rags, lay out the parts in order of disassembly, in order to facilitate the subsequent assembly. Handle the mechanisms carefully, avoid sudden shocks and unnecessary efforts, unless, of course, it is not required in the repair. When parsing several guns, mixing should be avoided to avoid confusion.

To extract the pins and pins of the rifles, you need to use hammers. To prevent damage to parts or the knockers themselves, wooden or copper hammers are used, and only light ones are applied. In case there is no special hammer, you can use the usual one if you put a wooden lining.

Full disassembly

Single-barreled gun IZH-18E is disassembled as follows: first you need to remove the butt, having previously turned out of its nape two screws. However, you can only turn one, and only loosen the second, after which it will be possible to turn the back of the head and open access to the lug screw. After the lodgment screw is unscrewed, it will be possible to divide the box and box. Then it is necessary to remove the screw of the safety clip, and turn it at a right angle to either side and remove it. The next step will be cocking the trigger (for this you need to press the lock lever) - then in the tail of the box will open the pusher hole, where you need to insert a nail or wire with a diameter of 1-1.5 mm. Then you can pull the trigger and do the separation of the pusher with a fighting spring.

Then you need to pull the trigger, after knocking out its axis. It is necessary to remove the trigger carefully so that the cocking indicator and its spring do not fall off afterwards. After that, remove the spring of the sear, as well, first turning the screw off. After knocking out the axle, remove the trigger along with the sear. Then, from the base of the fuse, knock out the pin - pull it out together with the fuse. The subsequent removal of the striker with a spring requires a special wrench. First, it is necessary to unscrew the retaining screw of the hub bushing, and turn the hub with a key. Then carefully remove, with the help of the knockout, the spring of the locking lever, after knocking out its support pin. After that, remove the lock screw of the box cover and slide it to 5-7 mm (to do this, you must also use the knockout, placing it in the hole under the trigger guard and applying accurate punches with a wooden or copper hammer).

If it is necessary to remove the latch of the locking lever, you must first dislodge the axis and carefully separate it to prevent the latch spring from falling out. To disassemble the fore-end, first remove the three screws, then separate the latch and the hinge, remove the spring, knocking it out of the groove. After that, you can remove the latch, after knocking out its axis. The last step is extracting the ejector, which should first remove the restrictive pin.

Assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
