Shaitan - who is this? The meaning of the word "Shaitan"

This term came to us from the far Arab East. More specifically, "Shaitan" is a derivative of the ancient Semitic "gaytan", which in literal translation means "opponent". That is, Shaitan is the enemy of mankind, Satan, insidious, bad, evil spirit, devil. There are two more definitions that are more prevalent in the Muslim world, since it means "an unbeliever among the jinn" and "one who causes despair and despair."

Evil Spirit in Islamic Theology

Shaitan is a very malevolent creature. He refers to representatives of evil spirits in Islamic theology, is hostile to people and Allah. Shaitan has a superpower - a transformation, can take any form of a person. After kiyamata, or, in our opinion, the day of judgment, Mr. Shailans Iblis and all his subordinates were doomed to inhuman, hellish torment. He, with the help of his servants, distracts people from good deeds, seduces them and incites them to commit sins. Shaitanov can be produced by their master - Iblis, they are made of smoke or fire, and can also make metamorphosis - outwardly taking different forms. So the statement that Shaitan is Iblis is not always right, he is their ideological leader, the progenitor. All these spirits live in a large, friendly family in various countries and regions. The Shaytans may have different names. Just as Iblis has a synonym for Rajim, which in translation into Russian is "beaten", the word "shaitan" has a synonym in the Bible - Satan. It turns out that Shaytan is the devil.

The eternal war for the soul of man

According to Islamic legends, these evil spirits have pitted the errors and sins of various prophets, for example Yusuf, and many other good people. Some of the Shaytans were temporarily subordinated to the Prophet Suleiman, but later they returned to their dirty deeds. Until now, spirits have prevented people from praying, and some are still being taught magic or witchcraft. Shaitan is Satan, who tempts honest people and directs him to a crooked path. These creatures force people to perform bad actions under the guise of good, kind spirits and forget about Allah. It is believed that each person has his own angel and his Shaitan who are fighting for the human heart and the immortal soul. Evil entities knock a person off the right path, provoking envy, anger and anger in him, and use human weaknesses such as pleasure and other carnal aspirations. Shaitan is a devil, if you look for an analogue in Slavic mythology.

Unbelievers and obstinate jinns

But it is not all that bad. To drive away the evil Shaitan, you just need to call for the help of Allah. Some Muslim theologians consider these spirits to be unbelieving and obstinate jinns, while the other part classifies them as a special category of beings who are doomed to be punished in a fiery hell. And from the memory of Gehenna fiery and the opinion has gone that Shaitan is something satanic. Pre-Islamic Arabia tried to find good qualities among the Shaytans and believed that they are intermediaries who help to communicate with the other world of poets and soothsayers. That's why there are disagreements: Shaytan is someone: an evil demon or just an otherworldly mediator. In theological writings and in the Koran, the Shaytans and Iblis are sometimes interchanged. This is due to the fact that all evil spirits obey him and perform all his commands and instructions. Iblis, Shaitan is a genie who, for his zeal, received the approach to God himself, he was among the angels, but his pride also destroyed him. Because of her, Iblis was driven out of heaven, after which he became enraged at the people and Allah and began to bring believers down the right path.

Having many faces

Iblees, like the actor of the Brazilian television series, has many names. He can be called al-Aduvv - the enemy, Shaitan - because of his superiority over evil spirits, and Aduwas Allah, which means the enemy of Allah. Often, Iblis uses the epithet "rajim". To protect from this patron of Shaytans, Muslims pronounce the last surahs of their holy Qur'an or simply pray.

Commander in Chief of Evil Spirits

In the Qur'an it is said that Iblis did not obey the command of Allah to fall prostrate before Adam - the first-created man. For the fact that Rajim al-Adwev disobeyed the order, Allah threw him down from heaven and condemned him to terrible torments, but Iblis urged the supreme ruler to postpone the punishment until the Last Judgment. The patron of evil spirits swore an oath to seduce people and knock them off the right path. After the Day of Judgment comes, all the subordinates of Iblis and he himself will suffer in hell. According to the legend, he dwells on the earth and is the commander-in-chief of evil spirits - the Jinn and the Shaitan. His favorite places of residence are cemeteries, ruins, markets and baths. But the creature is very creative - loves poetry, songs and dances.

The Biblical story in the Orient

The first man, Adam, was seduced by Iblis, who persuaded his wife and Adam himself to disobey the prohibition of Allah and taste the fruit from the forbidden tree. Because of him Bilkis ceased to believe - the Savsky tsarina - the Samudians and adites. The ritual, when throwing stones at the hajj, is connected with Ibrahim, the prophet who drove Iblis away, who pursued him. During the feud of Quraysh and Prophet Muhammad Iblis gave inspiration to the Medinic hypocrites and Meccans.

The reason for people's disbelief

Some legends tell us that Iblis was called al-Haris or Azazil. He was sent by Allah to suppress the genies' rebellion and became proud of victory. The stories about Iblis gave birth to some theological problems that are associated with the omnipotence and concepts of the predestination of Allah. Shaitan is (a photo of him can be seen on the pages of the relevant literature devoted to the theme of evil spirits) weapons, which are conducted by the testing of people by Allah. One explanation for the reasons why Iblees refused to bow to Adam is the violation of real monotheism. This view was supported by some Sufis and al-Khallaj. As Ibn Arabi believes, Iblis still deserves the forgiveness of Allah. The image of Shaitan is found among Jews, Gentiles and Christians, who were in pre-Islamic Arabia. From there his names are born - Shaitan and Iblis. The story of Iblis is considered one of the reasons for people's unbelief and the existence of evil around the world.

Other values

Shaitan was and is an important being in the mythology and beliefs of man, therefore many geographical objects and objects of use were named in his honor, for example: a lake located in the south of the Kirov region of the Russian Federation; Russian combat knife, an island in the Itkul lake, the national nickname of the reactive flamethrower "Shmel". In the cinema there are several pictures called "Shaitan" - this is a French thriller of 2006, an Indian action movie of 2011, an Indian drama of 1974 and a Turkish fantasy thriller of 1973.
