Scientists are looking for the answer to the question: is it possible to explain the behavior of animals?

Every day people learn about animals more and more. Science continues to solve the greatest mysteries of nature, including the behavior of animals. However, this does not mean that absolutely everything is already known. There is still a huge amount of the unknown in questions about the mysterious children of nature, which are animals. You can only speculate and come up with theories about why they do this or that. The behavior of some species is still a mystery. The animal does not ask why it has this or that habit, so plausible scientific theory is the best way out of the situation at the moment.

Why do cows look only to the north or to the south when they eat?

When you eat, you almost never think about where your face is directed. But cows all over the world always face either north or south, when it's time to refresh yourself. And although people know that they are doing this, no one has yet been able to find out why. Apparently, cows can feel the electromagnetic field of the Earth, and they become strictly north or south, like large compasses. In addition, a team of scientists from Germany, who discovered this pattern, also discovered that many other animals do the same. Mice, deer and, presumably, other species of mammals are also oriented to the north or south, but in these cases it is impossible to find a specific reason why they do it. If birds turn to the electromagnetic field of the Earth, they do this in order to navigate in space. But when was the last time you saw a migrating cow? Mammals usually do not move for such long distances, so the use of a magnetic field for orientation in this case seems unlikely.

How can animals predict earthquakes in a few days or weeks before they start?

There is nothing surprising in that animals can feel an earthquake a couple of seconds before it starts. Even we know why this happens: an earthquake is accompanied by two types of waves, large S-waves and small P-waves, which usually outrun the S-waves for a few seconds. Unlike humans, animals can feel these small waves, and when they feel they understand that it's time to run and hide. Therefore, if your pet starts to panic and seek refuge, follow it, because you have only about five seconds before everything around starts to crumble. However, it is amazing that some animals are able to feel the earthquake in a few days or even a few weeks before it happens.

Why are the chimps fighting?

Whatever chimps may seem nice to you, they are very cruel. They are so cruel that it is known that they hunt other chimpanzees, kill them and eat them. What's worse, they do it in an organized and methodical way, gathering in groups. Simply put, they do what people call war. Yes, scientists have discovered that one flock of chimpanzees can fully declare war on a neighboring flock, which means that the "Planet of the Apes" is far from a fantastic film. As for why chimpanzees do just that, and not just like other animals, they just hunt and kill, so far nothing is known about this.

How do sharks orient themselves in space?

There are many things that people do not know about sharks. For example, how do they navigate the ocean? Despite the fact that the ocean is a huge storehouse of dark water, sharks swim without problems and go where they need, even if they have to travel thousands of kilometers. People have become perplexed in trying to understand how this happens, and science remains on this issue in the same place as it was a couple of years ago.

Why do animals like to play?

It would seem, what question can be simpler? Animals play because they are fun! Moreover, in the process they also learn. Fighting for fun with brothers and sisters prepares them by the time they have to fight for real. During games, animals find friends and partners for life and so on. Everyone knows this, does not it? However, it turns out that in fact nothing is known about why animals play. And if you try to understand this question in more detail, the answers do not make any sense.

Why do crows remember grievances?

Crows are frighteningly intelligent and, as it turns out, frighteningly petty. In 2011, scientists learned that they remember not only the faces of people who kept them in captivity, they also hold offense, and so strong that after a few years they can attack their long-time offenders. For a crow, revenge is a dish that is best served always. However, no one knows why they do it.

Why do lonely ants die so quickly?

Ants are incredibly social creatures. If you see one, then chances are that there are millions around. However, it turns out that they are social not only because they are stronger together, but also because the ant, if left alone for a long time, will literally die, and this will happen very quickly. Within the framework of the study, woodworm ants were exposed to serious negative effects when they were isolated from other ants. In conditions in which the socializing ants survived for more than two months (their lifespan is 6 to 12 weeks), single ants died six days later. However, scientists still can not understand why this is happening.

Why migrations of large white sharks are so strange and unorganized?

About large white sharks is known even less than about ordinary sharks, mainly due to the fact that when people try to study a large white shark in captivity, it dies very quickly. One of the biggest mysteries concerning these creatures is where they go and how they get there.

How do young cuckoos understand where they need to go?

Usually the principle of bird migration is simple: children follow their mothers to wherever they flew. However, in the case of the cuckoo, everything is a little different. Firstly, they do not have "moms" as such. The female cuckoo lays eggs, and then throws them into other people's nests. After this, the chicks appear from the eggs, which grow under the supervision of individuals of a completely different species.
