School lathe TV-6: device, specifications, description and reviews

Practical training is the key to successful specialist education. You can not become a real turner, only by studying the theory of textbooks. Here it is necessary first of all to learn how to work at the machine. For this purpose, in the 80s of the last century, the production of the screw-cutting lathe TV-6 was started. Issued it at the Rostov plant of training and machine equipment. This machine was made for teaching the basics, which every turner should know. This model could be found in many schools and special educational institutions.

Appointment

Lathe TV-6 was developed for teaching the basics of turning. Therefore, no sky-high characteristics from him to wait is not necessary. The machine is suitable for the most simple operations:

  • Preparation of holes.
  • Pruning ends.
  • Cutting part of the workpiece.
  • Metric thread execution.
  • Boring of parts having a cylindrical (conical) shape.

Lathe TV-6 ("schoolboy", as it is also called) can only work with non-ferrous metals and steel. This choice is due to the fact that the material during processing should not give off volatile compounds and dust, which have a detrimental effect on others.

Main characteristics

Lathe TV-6 at the first inspection surprises with its small size. At a weight of 300 kilograms its length is 144 centimeters, width - 47 cm, height - 110 cm. Thanks to this the machine perfectly fits even in small workshops.

The result of small dimensions is the small size of the parts that can be machined on the machine. The unit allows you to work with a part whose length does not exceed 35 cm. In this case, turning is possible on an interval, the length of which is not more than 30 cm. In terms of height, parts with a diameter of up to 20 cm can be processed above the frame. This value is only above the slide 8 centimeters.

The main characteristics in comparison with the performance of other units can be seen in the photo below.

The device of lathe TV-6

It is better to understand the capabilities of the apparatus, understanding which of the nodes and mechanisms the aggregate consists of will help. After all, the design provides the specified technical characteristics.

The structure is represented by the following basic mechanisms:

  • A curbstone (conditionally divided into two parts).
  • Screen for security.
  • Transmission.
  • Apron.
  • Babka (also conditionally distinguish the front and back).
  • Stand.
  • Guitar.
  • Electrical engine.
  • Trough.

A 6-speed box is the front end. A shaft is attached to it, which transmits the rotation from the motor. To do this, a belt drive is used. The direction of movement of the tool holder is changed due to a special mechanism installed in the box. It is adjusted by means of a handle. When it is turned, the gear moves to one of the end positions. If the cog-wheel rotates to the left, then a process of direct rotation occurs. In this process, a gear train is involved. If the gear moves to the right position, the rotation is reversed. From the radial runout protects the back node. In addition, it allows you to handle holes with a drill.

We will analyze the device of the screw-cutting lathe TV-6 in more detail. For this, let us consider its main mechanisms and nodes (their operation principle and device) separately.

Cupboard

The construction of the lathe divides the cabinet into two parts: front and rear. They have a similar, but different device.

The front curbstone is assembled in the shape of the letter "P". To ensure that the structure is more solid, the stiffeners are mounted below and above. The engine is located behind the pedestal. Turned on (off) it by pressing the button that is in front of the cabinet.

The difference between the rear pedestal is that its design instead of the engine includes an electric shield.

Guitar and gearbox

Guitar is called the gear of the gear wheels. It is necessary to transfer movement from the main shaft directly to the box. The guitar is a bracket with gears fixed on it. The lathe TV-6 has a constant gear ratio, which is one-fourth.

The guitar transfers the rotation to the gearbox. It, in turn, consists of the following details:

  • Shaft (2 pcs.).
  • Gears (5 pieces with different characteristics).
  • Coupling.
  • Block-pinion.
  • The drain plug.
  • The running roller.
  • Handle for adjustments (2 pcs.).

Thread parameters are determined by changing the handle settings, which is located on the front of the gearbox. When it rotates (and it has 3 positions), the gear unit, moving along the splines, engages another gear. On the panel of the box is another handle, which starts the running roller and screw.

Apron

An apron is needed to feed the caliper from the running roller (screw) by a mechanical or manual method. If it is necessary to perform manual feed, rotate the flywheel, which is located on the pinion shaft. The latter closes with the pinion, which is located on the pinion of the rack gear.

The worm, connected by means of a sliding key to the roller, provides a mechanical feed. It transmits motion to the worm gear. From it on the next gear wheel and the cam clutch the motion is transmitted to the pinion gear. The cam clutch is connected to the handle, the rotation of which leads to a mechanical feed.

Caliper

Installation of the incisors in the lathe for metal TV-6 is carried out thanks to the support. Due to the presence of 4 slides (carriages) the cutters move:

  • On the guides in the axial direction.
  • In a direction perpendicular to the movement of the first carriage.
  • In the axial direction along the guides of the third slide.

The carriages are installed in series, that is, on each other. The detail is fixed on the fourth carriage by means of a special mechanism. When the handle is turned, the mechanism is depressed and its position is fixed with a pin.

Babka

The second end of the part, when machined on a lathe TV-6, is fixed with the tailstock. It has a base and a body, due to which it is attached to the guide of the frame. On them the grandmother moves. Internally, due to the flywheel, the pinot moves in the longitudinal direction. In the inner hole of the quill, in shape resembling a cone, drills, cartridges and other tools are inserted.

Reviews

The lathe TV-6 is an excellent representative of the times of the Soviet Union. Manufactured in the eighties of the last century, it is still encountered. And many users are not going to abandon it. It is a reliable, durable machine that performs its functions qualitatively.

Deciding on the purchase of this model of the lathe, experienced users advise to answer for themselves on two main questions:

  • What accuracy is needed.
  • What kind of work is planned to be performed on the machine tool.

Of course, modern imported analogs bypass the machine TV-6 in accuracy. But if you want to remove a thicker layer of metal, then you can not find equal to the "schoolboy".

As for the second question, not all the work of the machine is able to perform. For example, as some of the users note, the machine could not sharpen the chisel pipe. To expand the functionality, you will need a set of interchangeable gears, which are necessary for threading with a tool. They will allow you to change the step size if necessary.

Of the disadvantages can be called that the machine works from an electrical network with a voltage of 380 V. If there is no power line at home, then the device needs to be converted to 220 V. Another disadvantage of this lathe is that during the work, it makes a loud noise. But on the other hand, if you install it in your private courtyard, then there will be no problem with this.

Apparently, the domestic lathe for working with metal TV-6, which was produced for the purpose of teaching the turning skills, found its application in everyday life. It is used by many fans to make their own hands useful homemade products. It is a reliable, durable unit, which even after almost four decades is in demand.
