Regional psychoneurological dispensary (Murmansk) - history and modernity

In Murmansk, as in many Russian cities, there is a psychoneurological dispensary. It was created in March 1963.

How it all began

In total in the city at that time there were two dispensaries: regional and city. In the regional there were only 10 beds. The staff of these establishments consisted of only 14 people. There were few doctors, but they were devoted to their profession. For example, NL Donis initiated the opening of boarding schools in the city for children who had some mental defects. Over time, it was required to organize narcological assistance to the population. This since 1968 was practiced by the doctor Umetsky SS. Over time, the offices of children's psychiatrists were opened at the bases of children's polyclinics. In connection with the expansion, new employees and premises were required. Because of their absence, they had to transport patients to the nearby city of Apatity. But the patients were transported in common train cars along with other passengers, which was, of course, very risky, although they were accompanied by a special brigade.

Improving conditions

In 1970, by combining the city and regional institutions, the Murmansk Regional Psychoneurological Dispensary was organized. Murmansk needed such an institution. This allowed the opening of in-patient departments, and an office for forensic psychiatric examination was also opened. The population was provided with medical and social assistance. Due to the fact that the psychoneurological dispensary was opened in Murmansk, the rehabilitation of patients began to be carried out in a larger volume. Initially, the work was carried out in two buildings. In one there was a hospital, in another - an ambulance. It was uncomfortable. In addition, there were not enough places to accommodate patients. But in 1977, under the psychoneurological dispensary (Murmansk), a large building was transferred to Lobova Street, 14. This allowed to unite all services in one room, open a laboratory, physio-cabinet, a forensic office. Over time, the psychoneurological dispensary (Murmansk) acquired a new building along Sverdlov Street, 2/4. This allowed us to open a children's and adolescent department.

Here they not only treat. On the basis of the dispensary, training of future medical personnel is organized, and training courses have been organized. Often, seminars are held, which address issues of psychiatry, not only regional, but also interregional. The congresses on psychiatry come specialists from Norway and the prosperous Sweden.
