Radicular syndrome and its treatment

Radicular syndrome is a lesion of the nerve of the spinal cord, which is located where there is separation from the spinal cord and exit from the spine. This place is called the spine.

Like any disease, the radicular syndrome has a number of causes:

  1. Defects of the spine, formed during the embryonic period.
  2. Constant strong load on the spine.
  3. Keeping a sedentary lifestyle.
  4. Nervous breakdowns and stressful conditions.
  5. Infections of various nature.
  6. Hormonal failures.
  7. Injuries.
  8. Subcooling the body
  9. Presence of tumors or scars.

Radicular syndrome, the symptoms of which need to be described in detail, is characterized by constant pain, when the nerve begins to squeeze. The pain is localized in the area where the pinching occurs. So, if the nerve compression occurs in the region of the cervical spine, then the pain syndrome will give back to the hands. It is characteristic for radicular syndrome, which appeared in the thoracic region, the spread of pain even in the stomach or heart. And similar painful sensations pass after elimination of the reason - squeezing of a nerve.

When you move and lift weights, the pain can become worse. If a person is physically or emotionally stressed, severe pain can occur, which is felt in different parts of the body. Moreover, these pains are permanent in nature, and even intensify during movement.

Radicular syndrome is also characterized by a decrease in the sensitivity of the compressed nerve. So, if the needle is slightly pricked in the inflammation zone, the sensations will be weaker than in the same place on the other side.

The muscles that are next to the squeezed nerve, atrophy and weaken. In this case, there are problems with the motor ability of these muscles.

In order to determine the presence or absence of radicular syndrome, a number of studies are being carried out: X-ray (to determine the cause of the pinching), as well as observations aimed at determining the malfunctioning of the muscle groups associated with the squeezed nerve.

To properly treat, you must first diagnose radicular syndrome. Treatment of it directly depends on the reasons for its development. If the patient is disturbed by severe attacks of pain, the doctor prescribes bed rest for seven days, as well as the systemic use of pain medications and sedatives. Perhaps the removal of pain by using the Novocaine blockade.

For effective treatment you need to follow a diet. You can not eat salty, smoked and spicy dishes, because they interfere with the removal of water from the body. Also categorically it is contraindicated to eat fat fish, broths and meat. It is allowed to eat fruits, vegetables, vegetarian soups, cereals.

If the doctor prescribes a course of physiotherapeutic procedures, massage, physiotherapy exercises or manual therapy, his main task is to remove the inflammation.

In a place where painful symptoms are felt, you need to rub anesthetics - ointments, creams, fluids. One of the main tasks of treatment is stretching the spine, which can be either dry or underwater. Also, a course of procedures aimed at removing the load from it is assigned.

In the case when a patient has a tumor or hernia, it is necessary to eliminate this only with the help of surgical intervention.

There are a number of preventive procedures when the radicular syndrome is developed at the initial stage. As prevention propose massage, exercise therapy, as well as strict control of body weight. All these methods are aimed at eliminating the root cause of the development of radicular syndrome. Providing a timely call to a doctor, treatment of the disease is greatly facilitated.
