Properly selected needles for sewing machines - the guarantee of a beautiful line!

Have you ever encountered the problem of a rough line, holes from sewing? The reason for this may be an incorrectly selected needle for your machine. Of course, it will not be difficult for professional seamstresses to pick up needles for sewing machines, but for those who like to sew or just beginners, information on their varieties, differences and peculiarities will be useful.

There are household and industrial sewing machines. One of the differences between them is the needle holder. This hole, where the needle is inserted and fixed. The hole has a certain size, shape and depth. Therefore, only a needle with a certain length and shape will fit a certain type of machine.

Varieties

If you look closely, you will find a number on the needle flask. These are the numbers that indicate its diameter (thickness). The size range varies from 60 to 110 mm.

  1. 60, 70, 75 mm - needles for sewing machines, which are used for sewing light fabrics. The point is slightly rounded, which prevents the formation of traces from the puncture after sewing. This is achieved due to the fact that the needle does not penetrate the hole, but pushes the fiber of the tissue. With such needles it is very good to sew knitwear, chiffon, silk and other "delicate" fabrics.
  2. 80, 90 mm - needles for more dense fabrics. The tip is pointed, which facilitates the entry of needles into the fabric and does not allow the formation of omission of stitches. They use them when sewing trousers, jackets, suits, outer clothing, etc.
  3. 100, 110, 120 mm - the thickest and sharpest needles for sewing machines. Used for sewing coats, jeans, twill, tarpaulins. They are very durable, able to sew the thickness of layers of fabric up to 1.5 cm.

There are also universal needles, embroidering, for sewing leather.

  1. Universal. Can be of any size, suitable for "capricious" fabrics.
  2. Embroidery. Designed for embroidering with special threads, differ in the opening of the eye of the needle. It is a bit wider, created in order not to damage the fabric or thread.
  3. Needles for the skin have a slightly flattened, cutting point. Ideal for tailoring leather products and leatherette. The peculiarity of them is that they carefully cut the skin and leave no traces after the line.

Differences

Needles for industrial sewing machines differ from household bulbs. This is the upper part of the needle that enters the needle holder. A flask of needles for industrial machines is round, and for household - it has a longitudinal section. The second difference is the length. You can not insert different lengths of needle into the needle holder, and if you insert it, you will not get a line.

On any needle there is a groove located along, it helps to guide the thread. When installing the needle into an industrial machine, the groove should be on the left hand side. The household machines are completely different. For example, the sewing machine "Seagull" is distinguished by the installation of a needle. The machine performs a straight line, a zigzag and finishing stitches, so the needle is set by the groove forward, and the sheath of the bulb in it is from itself.

Properly selected needles for sewing machines will provide you with a beautiful and smooth stitch, prevention of thread breakage and a product without punctures.
