"Prometrin": instructions for use in veterinary medicine, dosage, composition

Modern pharmaceuticals offer a wide range of medicines for both humans and animals. For example, "Prometrin" (instructions for use will be discussed below) is designated as a means of prevention in the fight against such parasites as fleas and ticks. Especially well this drug has proved itself when applied to cattle and sheep. Despite the fact that its use imposes certain rules for slaughter and milk production, the medicine remains one of the most effective to date.

Description and composition

When using any preparation, carefully examine it, as in market conditions there is a high risk of running into a fake or delay. The preparation is an oil of oily consistency, color from light yellow to dark yellow. It dissolves well in water. Has a weakly expressed specific smell.

You can find "Prometrine" in ampoules on sale, the instructions for use contain dosages for small animals such as cats and dogs, since they are most prone to the appearance of fleas on their skin.

The main active substance is deltamethrin. On 1 ml of the drug there are 50 mg of substance. It is important not to confuse the veterinary drug "Prometrin" (the instructions for use contain all the data for treatment) with the same drug for weed control.

The substance deltamethrin belongs to the group of pyrethroids. So called insecticide preparations. Their task is to destroy all kinds of insects. The peculiarity of the pyrethroid group is that they are complete analogues of natural pyrethrins.

What is pyrethrins?

The history of the creation of insecticides is extremely extensive. Initially, the idea of their creation came after observing that some insects are afraid of certain groups of plants. This initiated the study of plant extracts. The name pyrethrins came from a group of flowers pyrethrum. In other words, they are chamomile and asters. After that, scientists were able to extract essential oils from flowers and, on their basis, create insect scares.

Mechanism of action

The active substance deltamethrin has an effective effect on a number of parasites, such as bedbugs, ticks (Ixodes, scabies), flies, fleas, etc. In other words, it destroys a group of ectoparasites of animals. The mechanism of action is extremely simple: the insect that is applied to the skin is swallowed. As a result, there is a disruption of the functioning of the whole organism, since the drug acts solely on the nervous system, destroying the potassium-calcium balance. Due to this, the synapses are destroyed, i.e., the junction of nerve cells. As a result, the paralyzed insect dies.

Nevertheless, when you buy "Prometrin", the instruction for use warns: the medicine belongs to the third class of danger. So, if you break the dosage, it will be toxic to fish and other animals. Plus there is a danger with harmful parasites to kill and useful insects, such as bees. Therefore, it is better to refrain from using near ponds and apiaries.

"Prometrin": instructions for use for cats and other small animals

Despite the fact that the drug was originally used for the treatment of cattle, veterinarians now use it safely on domestic animals. The only difference is in its dosage. For example, if you want to process a small cat, then you need to prepare a solution at the rate of 0.5 ml of the drug per 1 liter of water. The resulting mixture is sprayed with the animal.

Apply it to the animal's fur, avoiding the eye area. It is better not to wash it off: the action of the drug lasts for two weeks. If you use "Prometrin" at home, the instructions for using dogs indicate the difference between large and small breeds of animals. For large individuals, make a solution at a rate of 1 ml per 1 liter of water.

But most often the preparation is used for processing farm animals. In the case of cattle, special baths with a solution of the drug are used. In them, the entire herd is driven in turn until all the livestock is processed. It is less effective to spray the animal with "Prometrin".

The instructions for use for chickens offer similar uses. It is best to dip each bird in the tub or, for less stress, spray them with a solution of the medicine.

Slaughter and milk after processing

The use of any medication imposes a restriction on the slaughter of livestock and milk. What recommendations do you give about the preparation "Prometrin" in this regard? An animal shall be slaughtered no earlier than five days after the processing. And milk can be drunk three days after using the drug. These are the necessary measures to reduce the risk of poisoning.

"Prometrin": instructions for use, veterinary perspectives and precautions

Among the remedies for parasites, "Prometrine" is the most popular. At observance of dosages it at all does not cause by-effects. High concentration of the drug allows you to use it economically.

When creating a solution, it is important to observe precautions. It is better to prepare it in personal protective equipment, in order to avoid contact with skin and mucous membranes. If accidentally drip the drug, blot it with cotton fleece or bandage. Try not to rub it on the surface - so you will only accelerate its entry into the body. If inhaled, leave to fresh air. If symptoms of poisoning appear - contact a doctor as soon as possible.

Observing simple precautions, you can easily use the drug on any animals.
