Project 20385: design features and purpose

Project 20385 was officially announced for the bookmark in February 2012. By this measure is meant the development of the ship under the sonorous name "Gremyaschiy" and its modifications. This development is not just an improved version of the project 20380, but also the introduction of completely new solutions. It is worth noting that St. Petersburg 's Severnaya Verf has contracts for the supply of four ships of the previous format, two of which have already been built. A similar ship of this series is being completed at the Amur Shipyard. The updated project is predicted to become stronger in the shock plan, including air defense systems.

Purpose

Project 20385 ships are multi-purpose corvettes intended for detection and liquidation of enemy underwater and surface ships. In addition, they are able to solve various combat missions in the coastal zone, as well as serve for landing troops. On board there are artillery, missile, anti-submarine weapons and advanced radar stations. Provision is made for the installation of sonar systems.

An innovative solution was the possibility of placing on a small size vessel a special hangar in which a Ka-27 helicopter can fit. This further increases the probability of detecting enemy submarines and extends the combat capabilities of the ship. The peculiarity of the project of Russian Corvettes 20385 is that they are constructed using the latest technologies that reduce their radar detection.

Additional strength and protection is provided by the use of composite materials, which were developed by the world leader in this field - the St.Petersburg Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Prometey". Their practicality and reliability of the components were proved even during the construction of the project 20380.

Features of design and construction

The ships under consideration are designed by Almaz Design Bureau. After completion of the construction, the ships are supposed to be sent to the Northern Fleet. According to experts, the project 20385 is a more serious unit than its predecessors. First of all, it concerns improvement of tactical and technical characteristics, armament, combat capabilities, modernized power unit and navigation systems.

It is assumed that the St. Petersburg producers will build 10 corvettes for the project of the Russian Navy. Representatives of the Navy say that the need for such ships is not less than twenty units. They will strengthen the army and solve the problem of protecting the near sea zone. The Severnaya Verf plant concluded an agreement with OAO Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard to manufacture parts from polymer composite materials. The contract amount was more than four hundred million rubles.

Technical plan parameters

Corvettes of project 20385 with reinforced armament are equipped with a universal missile system "Caliber", anti-aircraft missile system "Redut", radar and acoustic stations. Of the artillery weapons on the ship there is a hundred-millimeter installation A-190-01, a pair of anti-aircraft guns AK-630-M (caliber 30 mm). An anti-submarine weapon of the "Packet" type is provided, as well as a Ka-27 helicopter.

Add-on

In the combat ship under consideration, the superstructure is made of noncombustible composite materials, including multi-layer fiberglass and carbon-fiber-based components. Such a solution ("stele-s" technology) allows achieving small radar detection.

At the stern there is a hangar with a special platform for the Ka-27 helicopter of anti-submarine type with a fuel reserve of about twenty tons. The corvettes of Project 20380, 20385 differ in favor of the latter. Modernization and better equipment made it possible to realize practically all the moments required by the customer, from general ship systems to weapons.

Housing

The steel smooth-deck hull of the ship has a fundamentally new design. The modified contours reduce the water resistance by a quarter when the corvette moves at the maximum speed. In addition, this solution reduces the load on the main power plant.

An updated version of the underwater part of the hull of the vessel makes it possible to use a power unit with a smaller mass, which allows releasing about twenty percent of the displacement. Consequently, it is possible to further strengthen the combat equipment of the corvette. Another point in terms of the efficiency of the new hull and the relief of displacement is an increase in the speed of the ship by 1.5-2 knots.

Basic power system

Initially, it was intended to equip the project with 20385 German MTU engines. But in connection with the program of import substitution, domestic engines were developed especially for these corvettes. The main power unit is a pair of DDA-12000 diesel units developed by specialists of the Kolomna plant and OA Zvezda.

Each engine consists of two 16-D49 motors and a reverse type reducer. The units are equipped with a microprocessor control and control unit. Main settings:

  • The resource of work is up to fifty thousand hours.
  • The estimated range at an average speed of 14 knots is four thousand miles.
  • Piston head - made of heat-resistant steel EI-415.
  • The engines are based on an aluminum alloy AK-6.
  • The power of each diesel generator is 630 kilowatts.
  • The current consumption is 380 V (50 Hz).

The DDA plants provide a high percentage of power in reverse modes with minimal fuel consumption, and a noise reduction of the GEM makes it possible to reduce the hydroacoustic visibility of the vessel.

Main ammunition

Corvettes of project 20385 "Gremyaschiy" and "Agile" are equipped with the following weapons:

  1. Anti-ship installation. It represents two combat complexes with four containers and eight anti-ship missiles with a range of destruction up to 260 kilometers. Starting containers are located in the middle part of the body in a longitudinally diametrical area.
  2. SAM. Anti-aircraft weapons include a complex of "Redut" with three modules of four cells, portable SAM "Igla", a pair of six-barrage antiaircraft guns (30 mm caliber) at the stern.
  3. Anti-torpedo protection "Package-N". This includes two 330 millimeter devices, placed in the sideboards of each side, the "Rubezh" system.
  4. Helicopter anti-submarine Ka-27.
  5. Melee weapons - two grenade launchers and a pair of machine guns.
  6. Artillery - 100 mm artillery A-190, which has a maximum rate of fire to eighty volleys per minute. The complex is managed by the Puma system.

Torpedoes launched from a ship can hit both enemy underwater missiles and submarines.

Radio engineering equipment

In this respect, the corvettes are equipped with a number of systems, namely:

  1. BIS "Sigma".
  2. The station of general detection "Fourke-2".
  3. The leading complex is "Monument A".
  4. Hydroacoustic equipment such as "Dawn" and "Minotaur".
  5. Automated communication center "Ruberoid".
  6. OGAS "Anapa-M".

All these complexes reduce the probability of damage to the ship three times, operate in the range from 64 to 2000 MHz, can detect simultaneously more than two hundred and fifty goals. To counter the enemy systems allow four launchers, fired by a set of jamming "Brave". The helicopter is navigated by means of antenna posts on the roof of the hangar (OSB-20380).

Seaworthiness and vitality

The "Gremyaschy" corvette of project 20385 has improved seaworthiness in comparison with similar vessels, with the same restrictions in case of transverse rolling. This allows you to use the weapon in a storm up to five points.

A special emphasis in the design of the ship was made on the combat survivability of the machine. The designers have implemented the latest developments in terms of protection from radar visibility. Innovative architectural solutions and special materials with high radio-absorbing qualities were used for this purpose.

The average indicator of the circular efficiency of the scattering area decreased almost threefold in comparison with the analogs. On some models of this series, the maintenance of operational survivability by implementing a set of measures of constructive protection against enemy weapons was realized.

Modifications

In the category of ships in question, there are several basic modifications:

  1. The project of the border patrol ship is 20380P.
  2. Export version 20382. The main difference between this model and the base ship is the equipping with simplified weapons and the possibility of changing the ammunition to foreign counterparts.
  3. Project 20385 - Corvette "Agile" for the Black Sea. Has advanced weapons and improved protection.
  4. 20386 - modernized version of the previous project with the possibility of installing combat complexes of the "Horizon" type.

Finally

It should be noted that of all the developments of the project 20385, according to the planned plan, only the corvette "Gremyaschy" is being built. The remaining ships ("Agile", "Capable," "Retic", "Strict") will be built on an improved regulatory document under the index of 20380. This is due to the high cost of ships, largely due to the presence on them of not always technically sound weapons. According to the designers, changes in the planning of the installation of German powerplants on domestic analogues did not affect the schedule of work. All the corvettes are supposed to be launched on schedule.
