Prime time is the most valuable time for TV and radio stations

Today the dictionary of Russian-speaking citizens is actively replenished due to borrowing from various foreign languages. These terms designate quite specific concepts, processes, objects and phenomena, so it is very important to know their meaning and to correctly apply such words in your speech.

What is the prime time

Prime-time is a kind of Russification of two words of the English language prime-time, which can literally be translated as "the best time". The term is used to describe a time period in radio or television, during which the audience includes the maximum number of listeners and viewers.

In contrast to the era of television, today the television and radio channels are fighting for the audience. Competitiveness, interest for the viewer, and as a result, high ratings, are synonymous with success and worthy profits for them.

In order to reach the widest range of people, and also to increase the rating, the channels allocate this time for the most interesting programs, movies or popular music. Of course, the cost of placing advertising, going in this time interval, is much higher.

Characteristics of television prime time: weekdays

The hours of prime time of everyday days and weekends (holiday) are different. The traditional working day ends at six o'clock in the evening, and the working week lasts from Monday to Friday, so most of the viewers can not spend time watching TV. The average working person gets home by seven o'clock in the evening, and even later. So "golden" television time for a weekday is two hours between eight and ten o'clock in the evening.

Features of the prime time of the weekend

At the same time, the festive prime time is from three in the afternoon to ten or eleven in the evening. According to statistics, spectators in the morning are engaged in planned affairs, walk or sleep. Only in the afternoon they turn on the TV. It is during this period that they can offer an interesting film, TV show or program.

Prime time on the radio

The activity of radio stations differs dramatically from the television channels: they become the true companions of most people immediately after awakening, during breakfast, when traveling to work or for a walk.

Radio is very convenient to listen with a phone or other portable device, so you can say that the radio is accessed when the TV is turned off.

The difference is the prime-time clock of radio stations and TV channels. Radious prime time is a whole two "golden" period:

• From nine to eleven in the morning.
• From four to six in the evening.

Do not think that prime time is a concept that only those who advertise on radio or television are interested in. Crowds of people sitting comfortably near their TVs or receivers and keen on films (programs, music, news) become a welcome audience for the following categories:

• The creators of television products. The secret of the popularity of many shows and broadcasts is precisely the mass view of their views.
• Radio and TV presenters. Recognition, popularity and influence are the goal of many DJs.
• Held or potential stars. Being a guest guest in the evening program, you can expect that the interview will see and hear a lot more people than when you appear on the screen at six in the morning.
• People who own the channels. Catching the audience in prime time (something really interesting and exciting), you can safely hope for its increase. Therefore, this is the way to attract more people who want to advertise and get additional profit.

However, however it may be, prime time is something that advertisers are often interested in. Despite the higher cost of advertising time in these periods, they are optimal for increasing sales, as well as for claiming an existing or a new brand.

Prime-time also serves to illustrate the programs of political parties, candidates for deputies, presidents and mayors.
