Pontius Pilate: biography and a trail in history

In history, covered with dust of centuries and tragic events, there are many mysteries and white spots. However, the biblical stories that told us about the terrible execution of Christ more than two thousand years ago, mention the main participants of this drama. In addition to the Savior, his apostles, followers and two thieves who also found death on the cross, the Holy Scripture tells of a certain Pontius Pilate. He stands alone in this confusion.

Judea's procurator Pontius Pilate in the Bible is very controversial. He combines the opposite qualities - hypocrisy and honesty, frankness and dvadushi, indecisiveness and determination, courage and timidity. There is nothing surprising in that the evangelists paint in such detail our portrait of the man who signed the death sentence to their teacher. They not only assess the events that crowned the world's only worthy man with a thorns crown , but also force us, residents of the twenty-first century, to reconsider their lives. Perhaps, one of us continues to crucify Jesus, compromising with his own conscience under the influence of other people and external factors.

Pontius Pilate, whose biography has many blank spots, was considered a mythical person in Soviet historiography. However, modern historians now, under the pressure of numerous facts of science, are forced to admit that the biblical stories about the life and death of Christ are by no means an invention. And the procurator Pontius Pilate himself is as much a reality as Emperor Nero or the gladiator Spartacus. The Procurator mentions not only the Gospel. Such ancient authors as Philo of Alexandria, Josephus Flavius, Tacitus and Eusebius tell us about this man in detail. Archaeologists have found a lot of coins that were produced at that time by Pilate and they are really genuine.

What is known about a man today under the name of Pontius Pilate? His biography began with difficulties. Some researchers claim that Pontius was born in Rome, others - that he was the illegitimate child of King Tire, the third believe that he was from a noble family and received diplomatic training. Constantly moving up the career ladder, he soon rose to the post of procurator in Judea. It is possible to trace his path more precisely from this post.

Pontius Pilate, whose biography is interesting for Christians and historians of another faith, arrived in Judea at the appointment of Tiberius in 26 AD. With him came the wife of Claudia Procula, who was the illegitimate daughter of Claudius and the granddaughter of Emperor Augustus. This woman was a very intelligent and uncommon person, faithful to her husband. The new procurator was brutal, because he wanted to conquer an unreliable province and make it prosperous. The population, of course, did not like it. History preserved the data on the confrontations of the Roman governor and the Jews, captured the prosecutor's favor to brave and brave enemies. He built new buildings, running water, using the sacred money of the Jews, which caused a new murmur. After the Calvary penalty, the procurator ruled the province for another three years. Then, thanks to numerous complaints and denunciations, he was sent into retirement. According to legend, Pontius ended his life in exile in exile.

Pontius Pilate, whose biography is considered above, is a real and extraordinary person who has changed the course of history and fulfilled his mission from above.
