Ostafievo (farmstead-museum): directions, photos and reviews of tourists

This is one of the most beautiful places in the suburbs. Ostafyevo is located eight kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road. But here it is always so quiet and calm, as if from a noisy modern metropolis you find yourself in the 19th century. Today we will tell you who owned the estate of Ostafyevo, how to get to it. You will learn about the surviving and lost monuments.

Manor Ostafyevo - historical information

Collegiate assessor K. Matveev in 1751 bought from the cornet of Alexander Golitsyn village Ostafyevo and a small village of Klimovo. He immediately united these two settlements and built a house. In 1758 the new owner of the manor opens a cloth and colorful factory in Ostafyevo. This was the beginning of development in the district of weaving and spinning production. Later, his wife built the temple of the Holy Trinity and the Great-Martyr George, which has survived to this day.

Ostafyevo - estate of princes Vyazemsky

For almost a hundred years, this manor belonged to the Vyazemsky family. With this noble surname, the heyday of the estate is connected. In those days it took its historical form, which we can see today.

Andrei Ivanovich Vyazemsky, who became a secret adviser at forty-four years, was one of the state's youngest dignitaries. A man with a sharp mind, perfectly educated and educated, he had an independent character. I always acted as I thought necessary, regardless of whose advice and traditions. For example, his marriage, which was still whispered in high society for a long time.

AI Vyazemsky spent a lot of time abroad. In one of the trips, he met a beautiful woman, a married woman, Irish Jenny Queen. He passionately fell in love with her, took him away from her husband and in 1786 married. His wife was named Eugenia Ivanovna Vyazemskaya.

For those times the situation is scandalous - the descendant of the grand dukes, Rurikovich is married to a Catholic, a foreigner, who was also already married. Andrei's parents did not survive this and in the year of the prince's marriage both died.

The prince sold the estate of Udino, which was associated with too many memories and sad events, the culprit, which, albeit involuntary, he became. In 1792 the prince bought Ostafyevo. The farmstead is rather modest and it is not clear what attracted the Vyazemskys. At that time on its territory there was only a small house built of stone, two wooden wings and several outbuildings that were in the backyard. To the house adjoined the park with a lime avenue. The prince got rid of all the old buildings, except the barn. In the summer of 1798, works began to repair and restore the dam, installing lanterns and wrought iron gratings on the bridge.

In parallel with the repair work, a park was created. In 1800, the prince retired and devoted himself entirely to the construction and improvement of the patrimonial nest. However, to fulfill his plans, he was not destined. In 1807, he passed away. He left Peter's son in the care of his closest friend, the historian Karamzin, who, shortly before this sad event, married Vyazemsky's daughter Catherine. He settled in Ostafievo, where for 12 years he wrote "History of the Russian State".

The favorite of the Moscow youth, wit and cheerful, Peter Vyazemsky for his accusatory poetry was actually expelled from the capital to Ostafyevo. The estate turned into a place of confinement for him, where he lived under the strict supervision of the police.

At that time the best representatives of the creative intelligentsia of that time visited here: VA Zhukovsky, KN Bvtyushkov, VP Pushkin (uncle of the poet), AI Musin-Pushkin, II Dmitriev. Here there were future Decembrists MS Lunin, VK Kukhelbecker. NV Gogol, AS Griboyedov, Adam Mickiewicz and AS Pushkin visited the estate.

Subsequently, burdened with debts, Peter Andreevich returned to Petersburg and made a brilliant court career. Since that moment the Vyazemskys practically did not come to Ostafievo. The manor came to desolation. Perhaps she could have collapsed in those days if she had not had a new owner - Prince P. P. Vyazemsky - a passionate collector, the author of many famous works on the history of Russian culture. He collected icons, sculpture, painting, bronze, porcelain, books, weapons. All this wealth was sent to Ostafyevo. The farmstead and the park were restored.

Then the owner of the estate became the son of Prince Peter, who lived in Petersburg and came to Ostafyevo very rarely. The manor did not bring income, and it was decided to sell it to the historian Count SD Sheremetiev. Honorary member of the Academy of Sciences, owner of Kuskovo and Ostankino, Sergey Dmitrievich understood the value and historical significance of Ostafyevo.

He completely cleaned up the estate, restored the main building and put monuments to Vyazemsky, Karamzin and Pushkin - people whose life was connected with Ostafyevo. The estate was in fact the first museum in Russia to be associated with the name of Pushkin. Since 1903, Ostafyevo and the nearby government of Nikolsky have received the status of a reserve.

Pushkin in Ostafyevo

In the suburbs, there are many historical places connected with the life of A.S. Pushkin. One of them is the estate of Ostafyevo. Here the great poet came to his close friend, the most famous owner of this estate - Prince P. A. Vyazemsky.

Alexander Sergeevich came to Ostafyevo three times. He was always a welcome guest for Vyazemsky. The poet read a lot here from the Boldin Autumn created by him in the remarkable for his work.

Since 1982, every year on the first Sunday of June, Pushkin's holidays in Ostafyevo are held. The farmstead, whose address is 142001, Moscow region, Podolsky district, meets thousands of poetry lovers every year. Everyone who is dear to the name of the great poet can come to his monument and read his genius poems, lay flowers.

Ostafyevo after the revolution

The post-revolutionary destiny of Ostafyevo is perfectly understandable. The museum-estate in 1918 was nationalized. From that moment it became the property of the state. The property has taken control of the new government.

Sheremetyevs did not abandon their offspring, did not emigrate abroad. They considered it a matter of honor to stay and save Ostafievo, Ostankino, Kuskovo. They obtained from the new authorities a letter of protection for the manor. For their own safety, they had a letter of recommendation signed by Lunacharsky. In 1918 SD Sheremetyev died, and his son Pavel was appointed the first director of the museum and the custodian of the estate. In 1928, he was dismissed without explanation and was evicted from the estate of his entire family. The fate of the estate was a foregone conclusion.

In the spring of 1930 in Ostafyevo the museum was abolished, from it the most valuable exhibits were taken out. Some of them, such as the collection of icons of the XV - XVII centuries from the Old Believers' monasteries, which Vyazemsky received as a gift from the Synod, were burned right on the territory of the manor.

To the left of the hall was a dining room, and to the right a library of Pavel Petrovich and the office of Andrei Ivanovich Vyazemsky. The library numbered almost five thousand volumes.

To the left of the library was a spacious living room. The small living room led to the front bedroom.

On the second floor there was a room where NM Karamzin lived and worked for 12 years. In addition, there were also rooms of Mary Arkadyevna and Andrei Ivanovich Vyazemsky.
