Moscow's skyscrapers are old and new: the history of construction and photos

These delightful monumental structures, giving Moscow a unique look, still attract the gaze of visitors, cause a sense of wonder and delight. But many of these high-rise buildings of the capital are more than 70 years old! The last 2-3 decades were marked in the architecture of the main city of the country by the appearance of new multi-storey buildings, also received the status of "skyscrapers".

The history of the first high-rise buildings

The very first high-rise buildings in Moscow - a complex of multi-storey buildings with a height of more than 100 meters, erected on the territory of the capital in the forties and fifties of the last century.

Initially, the construction of eight multi-story buildings was planned: in the very center of the city was to accommodate the Palace of Soviets, surrounded by seven representative buildings in the style of Soviet monumental classicism. This trend in architecture is better known as the Stalin Empire. The number of erected buildings was designed to symbolize the 800th anniversary of Moscow, which was to be celebrated on a grand scale in 1947.

In January of the same year the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR was adopted, which allowed the construction of a series of architectural structures, which later received the name "Seven Highlands of Moscow". However, the erection of one of the buildings was never completed - the process was interrupted in connection with the death of I.V. Stalin. On the stylobate of this building was later built the legendary hotel "Russia".

Seven of old Moscow high-rise buildings

The skyscrapers of Moscow are, above all, the structures of the Stalin era. They include:

  1. The building of Moscow State University, located on the Sparrow Hills.
  2. Multi-story apartment building, built on Kudrinskaya Square.
  3. A tall building erected in the area of the Red Gate.
  4. Residential building, located on the Kotelnicheskaya Embankment.
  5. The building of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
  6. The hotel complex "Ukraine".
  7. The hotel, known as "Leningradskaya".

What are the highlights of Moscow?

The location of the most monumental buildings of the capital allows you to see all the buildings at the same time. To do this, you need to climb the Sparrow Hills - it is from there that the stunningly beautiful view opens, allowing you to admire all the tall buildings of Moscow at the same time. From the area of Free Russia, located in the Presnensky district of the capital, you can see at the same time four high-rise buildings of seven.

The old high-rise buildings of Moscow, which are part of the seven of Stalin's buildings, have common features. These are buildings consisting of 17-36 floors, with a height of 136 to 235 meters. Facing blocks for all the legendary buildings were made at the Moscow factory (in Lobnya) using special technology. In the interior decoration of buildings, natural stone predominates.

Moscow State University - the leader among Stalinist skyscrapers

This majestic high-rise still remains a symbol of the city of Moscow. The building of the Moscow State University rises above the level of the Moskva River by 75 meters, the spire of the architectural ensemble rises high on a record mark (310 meters).

In the project to build the main building of Moscow State University, there was originally no spire. Instead, it was planned to erect a monument to Mikhail Lomonosov on the roof. However, I.V. Stalin did not support this idea, as a result of which the building of Moscow State University turned out to be similar to other high-rise buildings in Moscow.

The tour of the huge university complex allows you to determine that the following are located on the territory of the main building:

  • Three faculties in such areas as geography, geology and mechanics and mathematics;
  • Administrative part;
  • The assembly hall with a capacity of 1500 people;
  • science Library;
  • University museum.

The side parts of the building were designed as living quarters. Here lives a significant part of the teaching staff, as well as hostels for students and graduate students of the university. The architectural complex consists of 27 different structures.

Modern multi-storey buildings

New high-rise buildings of Moscow can be found now in any part of the capital. These original buildings perform completely different functions. In high-rise buildings are comfortable modern living quarters, as well as all kinds of offices, shopping centers and hotels.

There are such buildings as:

  • Business center "Moscow City";
  • Building "Triumph Palace";
  • Numerous housing complexes ("Tricolor", "Edelweiss", "Continental", etc.);
  • The building of Gazprom;
  • Business center "Sokolinaya Gora" and many other objects.

The most famous architectural project of modern Moscow

The business center "Moscow City" (MIBC) is considered one of the largest construction projects in the capital. The construction of buildings is on the Presnenskaya embankment. In the construction of the Moscow business center, it is planned to unite in one place such spheres as business, accommodation and entertainment.

The initiator of the project was B.I. Thor, who in 1992 proposed to establish an international business center in Moscow. JSC CITY, a Moscow management company, was established to perform management and control functions in the creation of a modern complex with the same name.

The most complex object of the MIBC is the "Central core", which is divided into underground and aboveground parts. Underground will be located 3 metro stations, a huge shopping complex and a large parking lot. One of the metro stations and parking for cars have been functioning since 2005.

The terrestrial territory includes three functional zones:

  1. The hotel.
  2. Shopping and entertainment complex.
  3. A huge concert hall.

The architecture of the city, thanks to this complex, was replenished with many other facilities. The project includes such heights of Moscow as:

  • "Tower 2000" - an office building on the coast of the Moskva River (construction completed in 2001).
  • Expocentre is an exhibition complex (the year of completion is 2008).
  • "Tower of Evolution" - a multifunctional center (completed in 2014).
  • "Empire" - a business complex (the year of delivery of the facility - 2011).
  • "City of capitals" - a modern multifunctional architectural ensemble (construction completed in 2009).

Of course, this is an incomplete list of buildings that are part of the complex MIBC. The old high-rise buildings of Moscow delight the local residents and tourists with their monumentality. From year to year, new buildings appear, surprising with their size and originality. Thanks to this, the image of the capital is changing for the better, acquiring more modern features.
