"Milk" (restaurant, Moscow): phone, address, menu

For an occasional guest of the capital, the Moloko restaurant in a typical residential building on Bolshaya Dmitrovka is just one of the public catering establishments, and for Moscow old-timers this is a landmark place that connects them with an invisible thread of nostalgia with old good times when bread cost 14 cents.

But why is the name so unusual, because here it is not at all manic kashki that visitors are treated to? In fact, this is a tribute to history. But where is the institution?

It is located on Bolshaya Dmitrovka, 7/5, building 5. It is a street parallel to Tverskaya. The nearest metro stations are Teatralnaya (300 m), Okhotny Ryad (400 m). Near the "Milk" is a museum of the Moscow Art Theater, the Petrovsky Passage and the Central Department Store. A bit of history

About how many years the house itself and who built it, there is no reliable information. But it is precisely known that at the end of the 19th century the family of Leo Tolstoy lived here temporarily, and at the beginning of the last century the merchant Chichkin opened a dairy shop-a coffee house. All this was happening in prerevolutionary Russia. Chichkin owned several dairy factories, so all the products in the shop were, as now commonly said, from the manufacturer. In general, an enterprising merchant had an innovative approach to his business. For example, in order to attract customers, he came up with a kind of marketing move: every evening, milk, which did not have time to realize, was poured directly onto the pavement. It was a public demonstration of the fact that all the products in the shop are exceptionally fresh.

The sellers, according to the dress code, were dressed in all white, and the walls were tiled with tiles of fresh milk. Also in the shop Chichkin appeared another know-how for that time - cash registers.

With the advent of Soviet power, the store became state-owned, but did not change its direction: it traditionally sold milk there. The pre-revolutionary interior remained intact until 2011, when the establishment was closed for repairs. Long queues, clamorous saleswomen, bags with glass containers and milk, which cost 45 cents - all these realities of the past years are taking heart to grieving grandmothers who mourn the appearance of the restaurant on the site of the monument to Soviet trade.

New face

In 2015, after a lengthy renovation, the eponymous restaurant of European cuisine opened on the site of the Moloko store. It seems that the attempt to pour new wine into old wineskins was a success. It's true that from the interior and exterior of the former dairy shop there was only a name, and for that, thanks to the owners. Otherwise there would be on this place another beauty salon, and even a trace would not remain.

It is interesting that the building itself was restored in such a way that it is not immediately possible to understand in what years the institution was built: either in pre-revolutionary Russia, whether in the time of party leaders, or a couple of years ago. In a word, Milk is a restaurant that is as if out of time thanks to its entourage. This impression is created due to the use of leather, brick, wood in the finish. Sofas are covered with velvet, in the corner there is a grand piano. The color range of the room varies from light beige to dark brown. In the summer there is a small but comfortable veranda. This is the classic of the genre in the style of good old Viennese coffee houses.

Working hours

Milk is a restaurant open 24 hours a day. The institution works without days off. On weekdays from 7.00 to 13.00 breakfast is served. This is very convenient, because most of the metropolitan restaurants open only at 11.00. And at the weekend stretch the pleasure of breakfast can be and until 15.00

In short, making the menu of the restaurant "Milk", the owners made a bet on those visitors who do not particularly like experiments and in any institution among a huge list of positions are looking for mashed potatoes with cutlets. Therefore, in order not to complicate their choice, they collected all the most popular dishes of European cuisine with some impregnation of the eastern.

Beverages

But as for coffee, the offer here is simply huge (more than 30 positions). Many come here purely for this purpose. Author's alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails with a multifaceted aftertaste are refined, exquisite, colorful. And it would be strange if the milk itself were not served here. Of course it is there - hot, steam, fresh. It is brought from the Moscow region daily.

"Milk" (restaurant): the general impression

Passers-by who do not know the history of this place are unlikely to understand why this name is from an institution with European cuisine. But, on the other hand, it intrigues and calls inside.

There is plenty of space. Tables are located at such a distance from each other that even at the peak hour you do not feel like a herring in a barrel. The interior falls in love with itself at first sight: everything looks fashionable and expensive. It seems that the restaurant is on the first floor of some fashionable hotel. In one room entourage more solemn, in another less formal atmosphere has to soul communication over a cup of coffee. Service gallant, it is clear that well-trained waiters are also very competent in cooking technology.

The style of the classic European cafe, a small but informative menu, a variety of coffee and cocktail cards, unobtrusive background music, breakfasts from 7 am are obvious advantages that the Moloko restaurant (Bolshaya Dmitrovka) boasts.

One of the drawbacks is the lack of parking. Many more sweet tooth complain about the meager dessert menu. Also the price tag slightly "bites": the average check is 1000-1500 rubles. But for this money there really can be hearty to eat, and not just to taste the dishes. In addition, on weekdays until 16.00 on the whole menu a discount of 20% applies, which can not but rejoice. Recently, they introduced a modern European tradition of "suspended" coffee. This means that you can pay an extra cup and treat a guest who wants to take advantage of such a nice bonus.

So, Milk is a restaurant with a good reputation. Thanks to the decent quality of food and service for many, it has already become a favorite place, in which they come about and without.
