Metrogyl Gel

Metrogyl gel is a medicinal product intended for external use. Its basis is metronidazole. Also included in the gel are sodium hydroxide, disodium edetate, carbomer-940, propylene glycol, methylhydroxybenzoate, propylhydroxybenzoate.

Metrogyl gel, thanks to its basis (metronidazole), is an antibacterial and antiprotozoan means for a wide range of activity. Its spectrum includes the bacteria of Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia intestinalis, Trichomonas vaginalis and many obligate anaerobes. The drug is not used to treat diseases caused by anaerobic microorganisms. Metrogil is a vaginal gel that is used to treat infections of the female genital tract and is characterized by an increased concentration of a substance with active properties.

The gel has a fairly simple mechanism of action, which consists in restoring the nitro group of metronidazole with transport proteins of the microorganism located inside their cellular structures. The biochemical compound obtained by this reaction subsequently directly interacts with bacterial DNA. As a result, the microorganism dies, as it can not exercise its physiological functions due to irreversible changes in its structural material.

The undoubted advantage of this drug is the possibility of interaction with antibacterial agents of other pharmacological groups. The result of this synergy is an increase in the effectiveness and spectrum of microbicidal action.

Ointment "Metrogil" is intended for external use, but it can act on internal organs and systems. This form of the drug "Metrogil" has minimal side effects. This drug has no reliable pharmacokinetic parameters.

The drug "Metrogil Gel" is used to treat skin diseases that are inflammatory and manifest as pustules, papules, common and red acne. Also, the drug can be a fairly effective component of complex therapy. In this case, it is used to eliminate ulcers of diabetic or venous-stagnant nature. The drug "Metrogil gel" can be used as a component of treatment of genital tract infections. Since the number of side effects is minimal, almost all age groups of the population can use it, except for those who have hypersensitivity to this drug. A special contraindication is the use during pregnancy and lactation. Antibacterial substances in this case can penetrate the child's body and cause undesirable changes in the structure and functioning of its organs. Gel, which accidentally gets into the eyes when applied to the skin, can cause burn-like conditions, thereby significantly impairing the visual function.

Despite the positive results of using the drug along with other antibacterial agents, in some cases a dangerous cumulation occurs, which can lead to the development of severe complications from the circulatory system. These drugs include anticoagulants. Metronidazole enhances the action of this group of drugs. Therefore, to avoid dangerous bleeding during treatment with anticoagulants, it is worth noting the use of the Metrogil gel.

Shelf life of the drug is up to three years. Store it in a dry place at room temperature. If the storage requirements are not met, the drug "Metrogyl Gel" quickly loses its antibacterial properties.
