Medicinal product "Folacin". Instructions for use

In one tablet of the preparation "Folacin" (instruction for use informs) contains five milligrams of folic acid - an active ingredient. Among the additional components: crospovidone, povidone, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose.

Available in packages of ten, twenty or thirty pieces.

The drug "Folacin" refers to the group of vitamin preparations.

Active active substance of the drug after ingestion can be converted into tetrahydrofolic acid, which, as a coenzyme, participates in metabolic processes.

This drug is widely used in the period of expectation of the child, because it protects the fetus from damaging factors. In addition, the drug promotes optimal maturation and functioning of the placenta.

Pharmacological agent "Folacin", the instruction to which in detail considers the principle of its action, is shown to be applied in the following cases:

- to prevent and treat shortages in the body of folic acid due to inadequate or unbalanced nutrition;

- for preventive and therapeutic purposes in cases of ailments resulting from deficiency of folic acid (among them, such kinds of anemia as hyperchromic, macrocytic, megaloblast, sideroblastic, postresection);

- to prevent or treat anemia during fetal and lactation:

- in order to prevent the future child from having birth defects in development (among them, neural tube defects);

- in conditions of long-term administration of folic acid antagonists, like trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole (in the complex) and methotrexate;

- with prolonged anticonvulsant treatment with primidone, phenobarbital, phenytoin.

The preparation "Folacin", the instruction for use, focuses on this particular attention, it is contraindicated in case of intolerance of the components of the medication, with malignant neoplasms, pernicious anemia and lack of cobalamin.

The medicament in question is taken orally.

To treat anemia caused by a deficiency of folic acid, prescribe five milligrams daily for four months. For prophylactic purposes - for two and a half milligrams.

For the treatment of inflammatory diseases in the intestine and with malnutrition is shown by fifteen milligrams per day.

During the planning period of the child, future mothers are prescribed, as a rule, two and a half milligrams daily for at least a month before the alleged conception.

The preparation "Folacin" for men who want to become fathers is no less useful. Thanks to the intake of folic acid in the body of the stronger sex, the quality of their sperm is improved, namely, there are no defective spermatozoa with additional chromosomes or their deficiency. The above features are characteristic of a disease such as aneuploidy. Men taking this medication suffer from this ailment three to four times less often than those who do not use it.

The preparation "Folacin", the composition of which was considered above, can be shown in large dosages, if the patient suffers from alcoholism, chronic infectious diseases, or takes anticonvulsant medications.

Against the background of taking this medication, it is possible to develop nausea, vomiting, anorexia, feelings of bitterness in the mouth. In addition, skin rashes, bronchospasm, erythema, pruritus are not excluded.

It is noted that with prolonged use of the drug in question (especially in high doses), a decrease in the vitamin B12 blood content is observed.

Shelf life of the drug is five years.
