Before turning to the main topic of the article, I would like to make some clarity and tell what is hidden behind such a fairly common term as "quarry".

Thus, from a purely scientific point of view, under a quarry, it is necessary to understand a certain set of all mine workings, in which mining of minerals is carried out in an open manner.

It turns out that the marble quarries of the world are just those places on the planet where the extraction of the above material takes place.

However, in nature such areas are often formed in a natural way, i.e., they wind up with time or wash away water. Such geological objects of the planet are often called canyons.

The marble quarry (Karelia) is really an amazing place! The nature here is extremely beautiful: transparent emerald water, marble steep banks and mysterious caves, a natural stone, painted in various shades and riot of greenery ...

Section 3. Ruskeala - the history of origin

Sometimes it starts to seem that some marble quarries arose by accident or appeared on the surface of the Earth under some very mysterious circumstances. Why? The thing is that these places are very beautiful. Many argue that it feels inside them an unearthly power and incredible energy.

Karelia considers his marble quarry to be almost the most amazing corner of nature, and even a schoolboy can tell his story.

In 1765, Ruskeala discovered a deposit of a surprisingly beautiful rock - marble. Then began its industrial development. The quarry is located near the picturesque waterfalls. Marble in this deposit has a very beautiful white-gray color with shades.

The mountain park in Ruskeala, where you can get acquainted with the development of industrial culture of the 17th - early 20th centuries, opened for tourists in 2005. Today it is visited by many travelers. Thanks to private investments in this object, it was possible to create a surprisingly beautiful natural ensemble and a museum of mining under the open sky.

The oldest of all objects developed in Ruskeala is the Marble Quarry (Karelia). In length, it stretches for 450 meters, and its width is in different areas from 60 to 100 meters. Under the water today is the majority of galleries. Above the water level there is only one, on which workers were delivered and marble was taken out.

Section 4. What to do in Ruskeala

Here you can explore the ancient mines in which in the 18-19 centuries, mined marble for the palaces of St. Petersburg. And how romantic it is to swim across the lake surface!

A hiking trail is built along the Marble Canyon . The lake is equipped with artificial illumination - from the observation platform a fascinating spectacle opens.

When the snow falls, tourists seem to dive into a fairy tale - so beautiful are the wonderful winter landscapes, decorated with artistic lighting. With certainty, we can say that the mountain park "Ruskeala" is really a unique monument of nature and culture.

Section 5. Diving in a mountain park

This, perhaps, is one of the places that in the modern world is more and more interested in and inspires the bold and desperate deeds of lovers of an active lifestyle.

Park "Ruskeala" is a place that is very interesting for divers. Underwater travel, the opportunity to explore the remote corners of flooded galleries, the labyrinths in the 3 horizons that were developed during the industrial extraction of marble, and the old technique used at that time and flooded afterwards - this canyon really deserves attention.

Section 6. Iskitim marble quarry

Another quarry where marble was mined, Iskitimsky, is located in the Novosibirsk region.

Nature in these places is also very beautiful. Before modern travelers the quarry appears as an amphitheater, the height of the steps is about 1 meter.

Experienced tourists recommend using bicycles to get to the marble quarry Iskitim. Next to it flows the river Berd. You can go to the spring with holy water, which is nearby.

Nature gradually "erases" traces of human activity - today birches grow on the bottom of the pit and its steps. Here there are cute lizards. They can be held in the palm of your hand and admire their amazing colors.

In the Iskitim quarry there is a geocaching geocache. Fans of this fun have a natural interest in these places. The atmosphere of mystery when searching for treasure - what more do adventurers need ?!

Section 7. Severe mining

In 1924 in the Chelyabinsk region, in Koelgi, white marble was found. Today, the pit, where this beautiful natural stone is mined, is simply huge: its depth is 55 meters, and the dimensions in the plan are 500x500 meters.

Currently, this quarry is the largest in Europe. Marble, which is mined here, is used in construction and finishing works in many countries of the world, including in Israel, USA, Japan, Germany, Finland, etc.

There is almost no quartz and impurities in it, so the stone meets the standards set for the level of radiation of building materials. Due to the fact that the mentioned rock differs relative transparency, a delicate play of shadow and light can be observed on the surface of the pieces.

White Koelgi marble is characterized by a very high degree of stability. It was used in the construction of many famous buildings, the construction of monuments and in the performance of finishing works.

So, this stone was used as a building material for the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, a memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill, for finishing metro stations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and other cities.

The natural deposits of the stone are amazing, which means that both the Ruskeal marble quarry and Iskitim will be attracting curious travelers for many years to come.

Now it is difficult to say with certainty, but, perhaps, some time will pass, and strings of ubiquitous tourists will also be drawn to the Chelyabinsk region to look at another miracle of the surrounding world.
