Male Azerbaijani names: the most important is their meanings

The culture of the Persians, Arabs and Albanians exerted a huge influence on the male Azerbaijani names. Western variants are also used now. The real names of this people have the endings -i, -de, -oo, for example, Fizuli, Rasulzade, Avazoglu. Such combinations as -goods and-kyzy correspond to the endings of patronymics in the Russian language (-character and -vna). It is worth noting that at present the surnames change with the abbreviations of the last syllable, for example, if the man was Iskander before, now - Iskander.

All male Azerbaijani names have their deepest meanings: free, strong, brave, just or right, the slave of Allah, the knower, the great Khan, etc. In general, the roots of the names of this people originate from the Turkic culture, as well as from other languages. It is very interesting that many of them are associated with the names of certain geographical points, for example, Araz is the name of a large river, and Tabriz is an Islamic city, etc.

Parents of a newborn child are always told: "Let him grow healthy and fit his name." Therefore, it is also customary to refer to children as well as their relatives or famous people. So, boys are given male Azerbaijani names of poets and thinkers of this people, for example, all the names that are mentioned in the epic "Dede Gorgud" are used up to now. It should also be noted that the famous playwright Jafar Jabbarli came up with new variants in his plays, they were popular at that time, and they are still being used.

During the Soviet era, people feared persecution and changed male Azerbaijani names. Accordingly, such graduations as -han and -bec began to disappear. At that time, children were less likely to be called as well as various well-known prerevolutionary figures, but some strange names appeared, such as Tractor, Inglab (Revolution), Harvester and others. Changed then and many of the surnames, known endings -li, -de and -good turned into Russian: -ov (Aminov) or -ev (Amardiev). At present, people are trying to return the original Azerbaijani syllables of their usual surnames.

After the fall of the USSR, and each country gained independence, many Western names appeared. But people still began to give their newborn children purely Islamic. After all, Azerbaijani names and their significance have a definite place in the life of each representative of this people. After all, if a person is called Adil, then he should grow up to be a just and rightly acting man. If the boy was given the name Amin, then he will be a reliable assistant to his parents and his future family. To the meanings of the names, Azerbaijanis are treated with all seriousness.

Of course, modern male names such as Yusif, Elmir, Ulus, Savalan, Oner and others are also in fashion. They are also beautiful, also have their meanings and are given to children in the hope that they will grow up to be good and pious people. If a child does not live up to his parents' hopes and goes on a bad path, then his descendants will not be named afterwards, which is bad for every Azerbaijani man, as he must eventually become the head of the family and an example for imitation.
