Looking in any directory on Spain, you can find out in which city the remains of the legendary Sid are buried

Before traveling to any country, I'd like to know in advance its sights and torment my route in order to cover them as much as possible. Before the trip to Spain, along with others, questions arise about who is Campedore, in which city are the remains of the legendary Sid? This will answer any guide to Spain, a brochure of any agency. They rest in the city of Burgos. But the question itself is more than legitimate, because the remains were reburied several times.

Who is Sid?

A man known in Spain as Sid Kampeador, the national hero of this country, existed in reality under the name of Rodrigo Diaz de Bivar, who was a Castilian nobleman born in 1040 and died in 1099. He earned his nicknames thanks to the fame and legends with which he Was shrouded during his lifetime. The nickname of Sid, or "my lord" in Arabic, speaks of his belonging to the nobility - he was married to a royal niece. It was given by the Moors and testifies to their recognition of his merits. Campedore - means "warrior". And this nickname is more than appropriate, because in all centuries there were few military leaders who did not suffer a single defeat. Moreover, according to the legend, he also won another military victory after his death.

Death of the legendary hero

The ballads told of the request of Sid, who was seriously wounded in the previous battle, to his wife, that after his death she dressed the body in armor and, planted on a faithful horse Babiek, released outside the gates surrounded by the Moors of Valencia. Jimena did the same. Crusaders, seeing their leader at the head of the army, rushed into battle and won a crushing victory. Of course, the hero with honors betrayed the land in Valencia, the fortress, which was the patrimony of Diaz. It could not be otherwise. No one in Spain was wondering about the city in which the remains of the legendary Sid are buried. But the hero Reconquista (war on the Iberian Peninsula for his liberation from the Moors), defender, generous patron and patron died. Valencia struggled to repel the siege for another 3 years, but the Crusaders were forced to leave it for a century.

The first reinterment

With the retreating troops to Castile were transported and the remains of the legendary Sid. All his life he was accompanied by court intrigues. A brilliant warrior, a fabulous rich man afterwards, beloved and loving husband - he could not help but arouse envy. Slandered before King Alfonso VI, who gladly believed lies, Sid was forced to leave the territory of Spain at that time for 9 days. The king did not forget that the commander, being the alferes (confidant) of the murdered ruler of Sancho, demanded from Alfonso a cleansing oath in the church before the altar about non-participation in the perfect evil. And even after many years, after offering a lot of priceless gifts and actually reconciling them, it was impossible to bury the remains of Sid in the capital. The Church of San Pedro Cardenas, in whose walls the home of the wife and daughters of Don Rodrigo, when Alfonso VI did not allow them to follow her father and husband, found the body of a glorified warrior for many years. All of Spain was worried about the theme of the hero's land's legendary land - in what city are the remains of the legendary Sid? The answer was this: 10 kilometers from Burgos, in a monastery. This time in this grave with him rested the body of his wife Jimena Diaz. The epitaph on the stove expressed all the love and reverence that this legendary couple called among their compatriots.

The great hero of Spain

A fine strategist who repeatedly defeated the enemy with military cunning, a brilliant court gentleman, a successful warrior, Sid became a hero of the works of court poets and stray minstrels. Ballads and romances formed the backbone of the famous "Song of my Side". Many writers have addressed this subject at all times, Corneille's play "Sid" was a masterpiece. Unaccepted by contemporaries, persecuted from all scenes by order of Richelieu, she later became a repertory of all theaters of the world. The role of Sid, performed by Gerard Philip, glorified him no less than the cinematographic work. All the works glorified the legendary strength of the hero, military fortune, legendary male friendship and devotion to military affairs. Some modern researchers refer to Sid as a lucky unprincipled mercenary, but legends say that the national hero is godlike. Jimena, his faithful "dove", also became the heroine of several works. In the veins of all subsequent Spanish kings, Don Rodrigo's blood flowed.

Place of Last Rest

In 1919 the bodies of Sid and Jimena were solemnly reburied in the most beautiful monastery of Spain - the Cathedral of Burgos Cathedral of Our Lady. It was a tribute to the great hero and his companion, recognition of his contribution to the greatness of Spain. Their grave is very beautiful, in a separate line it is indicated in all advertising brochures as an obligatory tourist object. Thus, the obtrusive question about which city the remains of the legendary Sid are buried in is removed.
