Life expectancy of different animals. Few facts

In the world there is a great variety of animals - domestic and wild, known or not yet known to science. Every year, scientists open any new species, and some fauna - die out. In total, according to scientific sources, there are more than 1.5 million species on the planet. It differs - sometimes at times - the life expectancy of different animals living on the ground and under water. Let's compare only some data.

Shellfish

The greatest life expectancy of animals is fixed in the environment of mollusks. That's really, really, Methuselah century! The oceanic Venus, found off the coast of Iceland (2007) at a depth of eighty meters, has lived more than 400 years. Scientists have identified his years along lines on a shell (like rings on a trunk of a tree trunk). The animal, "remembering" the ancient era, was nicknamed Ming, in honor of the ruling dynasty of emperors, who was in power in China when he was born. And the previous record also belonged to one mollusk, who lived 374 years.

Sea bass

Despite the commercial value of this species of fish, some individuals live long enough - up to 200 years. Such specimens were found in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of up to 500 meters. The thing is that this fish grows very slowly, it becomes late sexually mature. And, as a result: a significant life span (of course, if it is not time to catch the ubiquitous fishermen).

Sea urchin and others

The life expectancy of different animals, as a rule, is largely determined by their habitat. So among sea and ocean species there are quite a few long-livers. Red sea urchin, for example, if it succeeds, can live up to 200 years. In general, this ancient animal lives in the sea depths for 450 million years.

Greenland whales also live more than two hundred years. The oldest known specimen is 245! They are joined by koi carp, the oldest caught is 226 years (although the average age of the species does not exceed 50).

Turtles

The life span of different animals depends on the way they live. So turtles are generally known for their advanced years and can rightfully be listed as a long-lived fauna. The oldest of the known land tortoises reached the age of 250 years.

"Eternal"

Sponges, which by the appropriate classification are also animals, ensure their longevity by low mobility and extremely slow growth. Antarctic sponge, studied by scientists, lived more than 1500 years!

And one of the species of jellyfish, as it became known in recent years, almost has no age. Since the animal can "turn back time" in a certain period of its development, returning to the "teenage" stage of the polyp and starting to develop anew. Thus, these specimens are potentially immortal.

Wildlife Animals

And how about representatives of wild fauna?

  • As a rule, the optimal life expectancy of different mammalian animals is limited to a period of 100 years or less. Longer - only some whales and elephants. Horses can live more than 50 years. Brown bear, on average, lives up to 45 years, and small rodents - only a few years.
  • Some insects live their whole lives for a day. These include the use of footsteps or, for example, butterflies, sacks (here the account generally goes for a minute). In bees, the uterus lives up to 5 years, and simple worker bees - up to forty days (that's really so: class injustice)! Some beetles live three years. But female ants, for example, are able to live up to 15 years (males - a few days).
  • Among the reptiles there are species that cringe for a very long time. Everyone knows that these are turtles. Small species of reptiles live, as a rule, no more than three years. Snakes large - up to 25. Iguana - more than 50.
  • Crows, from representatives of many species of birds, can live in captivity up to 40-50 years. The average life of passerines is up to 20, gulls - 17, owls - up to 15, pigeons - 12.

Life expectancy of domestic animals

It often depends on the conditions of the animals. Their proper feeding and compliance with the regime of the day. Roughly speaking, the life expectancy of domestic animals depends on how a person cares about them, taming.

  • Some domestic chickens can live up to 30 (but who will give them)! Average duration of cows, according to livestock breeders, is up to 30 years. Bulls live less - up to 20. Horses in good conditions can live up to 50-60! But usually do not live up to 30.
  • Of domestic pets: rabbits - 12 years, hamsters - 3 years, and mice - 2 years, rats - up to 5. In dogs, the life expectancy depends crucially on the breed. On average, from 7 to 15. Some cats live to 25 (usually up to 15 years).

Life expectancy of animals. Table

As you can see, some animals live long enough. Some, on the contrary, a few days or even hours. Scientists still can not find exactly the criteria according to which there is this or that life expectancy of animals. The table below, only states the facts (certainly, they are approximate).

Mollusks 400 years old
Whales 250
Turtles 250
sea urchin 200
sea bass 200
Elephants 100
horses 50
Cats 15
dogs 15
Rabbits 12

It remains to add that a person, as a representative of a class of mammals, may well live more than a hundred years, if he leads a healthy lifestyle and gets rid of bad habits.
