Emilio Fernandez - famous at the time the director and actor gave herself and millions. Leila Abashidze did not choose anyone. She, like Antey, drew strength, imagination, creative inspiration only on her native land.

Biography of the actress

Abashidze Leila Mikhaylovna was born on August 1, 1929 in Tiflis (Tbilisi). My father was repressed, and they lived together with their mother in Siberia for a long time. Returning to their homeland, they arranged a dwelling in a small room above a bench in which they traded kerosene. All her childhood and youth Leila Abashidze spent in this place.

A lot experienced and experienced, she, as a teenager, starred in the film "Kazhdana" starring Kato - a girl of twelve years. The film was shot in 1941. For this role, a contest was announced, and little Leila was screened by her father's sister. Among other smart and self-confident children, Leila looked simple and even poor. The girl had a faded dress, instead of curls - an unprofessional haircut. Thick hair crawled over her eyes, closing them, her shoes were of indeterminate color on her feet, and her socks were missing.

The role of Kato in the film "Kajana"

All pretenders to the role of Kato had to play a difficult episode when the main character sobs and asks God to forgive her and return the voice to her brother, who was speechless from her unreasonable joke. Leyla Abashidze so sincerely, with such despair played this role, she cried so that in the pavilion of the studio for a few moments a complete silence reigned.

Recovering himself, the director Konstantin Pipinashvili, in order to defuse the situation, jokingly asked a question in terms of what she cries well, but whether she will be able to laugh and tell a funny story. The girl burst into a contagious laugh ...

Years of study

In 1951, Leila graduated from the acting department of the Tbilisi Theater Institute named after Shota Rustaveli. Before the third year she studied with Dodo Aleksidze, and from the third year she got to Misha Tumanishvili, a frontline soldier who was given Alexidze help, as there were a lot of students. Young student Abashidze played a lot and thoughtfully in student productions, her favorite role was Natalia Petrovna from the play "A Month in the Village". It was interesting to observe how Laila Mihailovna works. Each word, turn of the head, every gesture was tested many times by it and only after that it was approved.

It's no wonder that Leila graduates with a red diploma and goes to the Rustaveli Theater. But she did not have time to become a theatrical actress, she was immediately invited to the cinema. And the girl makes her choice.

Movies that brought glory to the actress

The film "Dragonfly" directed by Dolidze flew around the world. In this picture, the actress showed all her talent. She conveys the heroine's character, her restlessness and superficiality with two or three gestures. This is especially noticeable in the scene with the exam, when the girl, "singing all summer", goes to the exam as Calvary, but at the same time hopes for a miracle or for her charm.

After this picture, director N. Sanishvili together with scriptwriter A. Vitenson specially wrote a script for her comedy film "Splinter" specially for her, where she easily and directly played the chauffeur-girl, her contemporary - irreconcilable and uncompromising.

Leyla Mikhailovna's dramatic talent was vividly expressed in R. Chkheidze's historical painting "Maya from Tzheneti", where she was to embody the image of a girl, Georgian Jeanne D'Arc. Her heroine is forced to change into a man and in this capacity raises popular revolt against the local feudal lord.

Then there was another work with the director Sanishvili - "Meeting in the mountains." The film sounds wonderful music (Leila Abashidze herself sings), unexpected turns in the fate of the characters - all this keeps the viewer in a pleasant tension and gives a lot of pleasure.

The next work of Abashidze, "Waiting", is a film directed by Sh. And M. Managadze. The picture tells of the dramatic fate of a woman who gave her sons to the front. Besides the fact that Leila Abashidze played the main character in the film, she also acted as a screenwriter. The actress liked the very process of creating a movie, apparently, so she compensated for acting dissatisfaction. In 1970, "Waiting" (a film that everyone should see) at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary receives a prize.

Independent creative work

As an actress, director and screenwriter Leila Abashidze worked on the film "Paris - Tiflis and back". Work in three directions is not easy, there are several people who managed to do it, among them - Charlie Chaplin, Vittorio de Sica ...

To work together, the actress invited her friends, classmates. It's an easy-to-use film, filled with acting and director's finds.

One of the last works of the actress was the painting "The Circle", where she played a complex versatile character. The role was winning and spectacular, it's no coincidence at the festival in Tokyo that the chairman of the jury Gregory Peck noted that he discovered Georgian cinema and, in particular, the game of interesting and original actress Leila Abashidze.

Leyla Mihailovna Abashidze plays simply, without excessive external gestures, very comprehensively. Its national trait manifests itself in temperament, softness, plasticity, naturalness.

Unfortunately, Leyla Abashidze does not advertise her private life, but creativity is in sight. Recently, the actress celebrated the anniversary - the 85th anniversary, which was attended by many fans, friends, relatives and acquaintances.
