Diarrhea in infants

Diarrhea in infants is very common phenomenon, which delivers many unpleasant minutes both to the parents of the baby, and, in fact, to the child himself. It can occur already in the first days of the baby's life and last for several months.

However, if a child is breastfed, and its development is in accordance with the norms, one should not worry, it is a physiological phenomenon. Such a chair can not cause the baby any inconvenience and occur after each feeding. It is usually a medium liquid, yellow in color (can be slightly changed), but sometimes there is a little bit of a mucus admixture. And if the child is cheerful and healthy, then nothing needs to be done, everything will turn right by itself.

However, diarrhea in infants can also indicate problems in their bodies, so the baby should be looked at and, if necessary, treated.

Regardless of the causes of diarrhea, all the children endure it equally hard. Diarrhea in infants can be the result of overfeeding, when the mother gives the breast too often (alternatively, fat or not fresh cow's milk for feeding). If the reason is exactly this, the stool of the baby can be up to 20 times a day. Feces are yellowish with white pieces of undigested milk, and sometimes mucus, blood and greens are traced. The smell of stool is also changing.

Another reason can be fasting baby. In this case, the chair is green , quite liquid (similar to the sediment from the broth), and the child does not sleep well, develops, rarely urinates, is restless and sometimes vomits.

Also, the cause of diarrhea can be a disease, for example, a cold or ear inflammation. The smaller the baby, the sharper it reacts to stool disorders. Therefore, if a child has diarrhea, it is not worth delaying with treatment. If the treatment is started on time, then any disorder will pass easily and quickly. In particular, if the blame is for the intestinal infection, only medication can relieve it. After all, while the disease continues, the baby will be disturbed and diarrhea.

What to do if a child has diarrhea, every parent should know. First, we must remember that without extensive treatment here is indispensable. It may be possible to cope with the disease independently at home, but if the digestive disorder has become severe (when there are the following signs - vomiting, blood in the stool or watery stools, the temperature exceeds 38 ° C), then emergency medical care can not be avoided. If it is difficult to get to the doctor, then you need to know the basic rules of emergency care in case of diarrhea.

If the baby is fully breastfed, you need to continue to feed him with milk. After the cessation of breastfeeding can simply harm the baby, and maybe malnutrition caused diarrhea. So mother's milk in this case is the best medicine. Also, the baby can be given water sweetened with sugar, and deprive any food. But this is in case the diarrhea is severe.

If the baby is an artificial person, then it does not need to be fed with whole milk , but it is better to dilute it with half of water. Food he needs to give the minimum, so that he can only satisfy his hunger. If the diet of the baby already includes solid food, it should be completely eliminated for the duration of treatment. If for a few days diarrhea in infants on artificial feeding does not pass, then you need to seek help from doctors.

If the diarrhea is already strong, and the child's well-being worsens, it should not be fed. It is better to drink it with boiled water or tea, give a rice decoction, keeping the intervals, and immediately call a doctor. Only the medic can appoint the necessary treatment, which will save the baby from diarrhea.

I would like to note that self-medication in this case should not be engaged, so that this does not lead, in the final analysis, to any complications.

Be healthy!
