Kostroma is an ancient city of Russia, located on the Volga River. In the modern settlement lives 280 thousand people. The city with a developed infrastructure and many attractions is located 350 km from Moscow. The flag and the coat of arms of Kostroma, whose description is presented below, appeared among the first during the emergence of provinces.

History

The city was first mentioned in 1213 in the annals. It was founded in 1152. In the thirteenth century there was an independent principality, which later joined the VK Moscow. In the XIV century, Kostroma became the largest trade and craft center of Russia. The city did not have its coat of arms for a long time. However, in 1719, when the Kostroma Province was formed, this settlement separated from Moscow. And in 1740 appears an important symbol of power - the coat of arms.

The emergence of the arms

The first coat of arms of Kostroma is the image of the cross under the crown. However, Catherine II did not allow further use of it with a similar meaning. She decides to make a trip to Tver, where the fleet was located. Accepted Catherine II at the highest level - salute, triumphal arches, the sound of bells. All estates came to bow to the Empress. The ruler was delighted with this reception. The next visit came in 1767. This year she indicated to make some amendments, or more precisely, to place the galley "Tver" on Kostroma's coat of arms. After the revolution of 1917 the coat of arms of Kostroma again changed. And in 2002, the urban symbol was again edited. Now the historically correct version has been returned - on the blue waters a gold colored galleon sails. The sails are clean. On the galley of 10 oarsmen, float to the left. The mast is decorated with the royal standard.
