Ischemia of cerebral vessels: how to prevent pathology

Ischemia of cerebral vessels is the response of the body to local oxygen starvation, caused by a lack of blood supply to brain tissue. Disruption of blood flow, usually occurs as a result of narrowing of the lumen or complete blockage (thrombosis) of the cerebral arteries.

In the field of pediatric neurology, a serious problem is cerebral ischemia in newborns. This fact is due to the fact that until now physicians do not have sufficiently effective methods of drug treatment of the disease.
The disease is caused by various external and internal factors. However, regardless of the causes of the onset of ischemia, untimely diagnosis and wrong treatment are followed by deplorable results.

Ischemia of cerebral vessels: causes

The disease appears mainly as a result of atherosclerosis of the brain vessels , which is the growth of fat deposits on the inner walls. Because of fatty layers, the lumen of the vessels gradually decreases and a partial or complete disturbance of the blood flow occurs. No less rare cases of the origin of ischemia is the clotting of the blood clot of the entire lumen of the brain artery.

The ischemia of cerebral vessels can be triggered by heart failure, tachycardia, bradycardia (irregular heartbeat rhythm), increased blood viscosity due to erythrocytosis, anemia, carbon monoxide poisoning and other pathologies.
The main reason for diagnosing cerebral ischemia in a newborn is hypoxia, expressed in the insufficient supply of oxygen to the children's brain, which occurs during pregnancy and during childbirth.

Ischemia of cerebral vessels: symptoms and treatment

The earliest symptoms of the disease are fast fatigue in mental work and active brain activity. In the future, this factor is supplemented by a significant memory impairment and forgetfulness. Clinical symptoms of cerebral ischemia include severe dizziness, sudden jumps in blood pressure, different localization of headaches, fainting, vomiting, nausea, visual and speech disorders, sensitivity disorders and general weakness.

At present, with the diagnosis of cerebral ischemia, effective methods of treatment with the help of medications have not been developed. Since the middle of the last century, medical practice has been using operational methods to correct atherosclerotic vessel injuries that feed brain tissue. The essence of surgical intervention consists in the removal of atherosclerotic plaque or thrombus from the clogged cerebral artery, as well as in the restoration of the optimal supply of the brain with blood, oxygen and nutrients. Such operations are most often performed under local anesthesia.

When surgical intervention is impossible, one has to rely on medical treatment. To do this, appoint a means of the group of statins, fibrates, anion-exchange resins, low-molecular heparins, nicotinic acid, preparations based on fish oil. Extracorporeal purification of blood is carried out.
During the illness, it is necessary to change the way of life and eating behavior. A strict diet with a limited content of animal fats is prescribed, a dosed physical load, a minimum of 8 hours sleep, a warning of emotional overstrain is recommended.

Prevention of cerebral vascular ischemia should be started from an early age. Doctors recommend, as closely as possible, to protect themselves from the main risk factors: obesity, hypodynamia, alcohol abuse, smoking and the effects of stress.
