The InternetSpam

Is SPAM a stew? And what is spam - a book?

History of appearance

The term itself appeared in the 30s, when the well-known American firm Hornel Foods began to produce new canned pork, giving them a sonorous name SPAM (SPiced hAM - hot ham). The firm carried out such a large-scale advertising of its trademark, that it literally was at everyone on hearing and in sight. Storefronts, newspapers, buses, facades of buildings were full of information about this cheap, tasty, nutritious, economical product for the whole family. The company offered a variety of recipes for cooking dishes from this "wonder-stew."

Over time, other firms began to use obsessive advertising, sending letters, flipping leaflets with ads on mailboxes. And with the development of high technologies, mass mails were sent via the Internet and e-mail. And here the name spam, which means obsessive, uninvited, insolent advertising, has taken hold.

Types of spam

Spam has many kinds. The most common option is letters to the electronic box. They are sent by people or organizations to a large number of addresses and usually contain a commercial offer or advertisement. This type of advertising is widespread because of its cheapness. It is used to promote products, which can not be reported in any other way. For example, subjects of pornographic content, counterfeit objects.

The so-called spam book is also quite common . This is when a site is created a certain place - a guest book where you can leave your comments, suggestions, suggestions for improving the resource. Many spammers are not shy and use this opportunity for their own purposes - to advertise the product, service, site they promote, eventually they get a spam-book. In order for annoying messages to be in one place, rather than "walking" around the resource, annoying visitors, on some sites a spam-book is created specifically.

Also spam is used in search engines. And it's done this way: webmasters insert an invisible text on their site with popular words. Surfers, when making a request, get to such a site, but do not find there what they want. On many sites there are jumpers that distract attention and terribly interfere. Also, there are all kinds of letters of happiness, propaganda, mailings containing viruses.

From all the above it is clear that spam is spreading through e-mail, dating sites, social networks, blogs, forums, message boards, spam-book is also a tool for filing uninvited information.

Ways to combat spam

Most often, automated dispatch of advertising messages is made using a computer program spam bot. This program itself searches for existing e-mail addresses on various resources and sends unexpected correspondence to the addressee.

Therefore, we must try not to allow spammers to find out the address of your personal e-mail. For this, the following precautions should be taken:

  • Do not publish or encrypt the email address;
  • You can have a special box to provide in doubtful cases;
  • You can change addresses.

But these measures will cause inconvenience for you too. Therefore it is better to use the program of filtering advertising messages - antispam-bot. This program works for contacts not from your list and cuts unnecessary, containing spam mailings, which are sent to a special folder. And even if the robot mistakes the required document with spam, you can always return it and read it.

The best response to receiving spam is its absence. Otherwise, any action on your part will let the spammers know that this email address is working, and the mailings will only increase.
