International Mother Language Day: Origins, Celebration, Prospects

Each of the peoples has its own unique and unique language, which meets the destiny of man and bears in itself a whole heritage. The inhabitants of this or that state have their own characteristics, traditions, culture, and language is their direct reflection. It conveys the whole identity of the people, therefore the mother tongue is an object for real pride. And the day of the native language is a very important and necessary holiday.

Prehistory

Like any celebration, this international day has its historical background. His celebration was made possible thanks to the events that took place in 1952 in Pakistan. In those days, students from the University of Dhaka took part in a demonstration against the Urdu language. Most spoke in Bengali dialect, that's why the protesters demanded to recognize this language as state language. However, they were not only not listened to, but also began to shoot. As a result, four student activists were killed. After the death of these and other residents of Pakistan, as well as a number of unrest and liberation movements, Bengali was declared the official language in the country. The struggle for the right to use the usual manner of childhood communication was crowned with success. Subsequently, on the initiative of the country of Bangladesh (recognized in 1971 as an independent state), UNESCO Organization proclaimed the date of 21 February as the International Mother Language Day, which has been celebrated worldwide for 14 years.

As they celebrate this day in different countries

Day of native language is not in vain recognized international. It is celebrated in many states. In some of them the people adhere to certain orders and traditions in the celebration, in others - every time everything passes under a completely new plan. Let's look at a few such countries that first come to mind.

Bangladesh

I would like to mention this country, because here the day of the native language is considered a national holiday, since the anniversary of February 21 has become a turning point in the fate of people and in the history of the whole country. As a rule, the people of Bengal make a festive procession on this day, lay flowers in memory of the martyrs in Dhaka (to the monument "Shahid Minar"), sing patriotic songs. At the city's venues, a cultural program, festive dinners, literary contests, and prizes are held. There is also a special ritual associated with this great day for the Bengals. They buy special glass bracelets for themselves and their relatives, thereby emphasizing their affection for their native language and paying tribute to the national traditions and the history of their country.

The International Mother Language Day in Bangladesh is a special holiday. Each year, every event on the day of the native language is prepared with a special scope and honors. The government and non-governmental organizations of the country in every possible way encourage the holding of various kinds of events in an effort to support the love of their fellow citizens to their native language, and also do this with the purpose of preserving and further developing the indigenous speech.

Switzerland

We will touch Europe. For example, in Switzerland on February 21, the Day of the native language is celebrated in a cognitive spirit. There are actions, practical classes, numerous seminars. Especially acute in this country is the issue of families in which children speak two languages and both are native to them. Authorities, educators and parents are well aware that such children need a special approach, therefore individual programs of education and upbringing of the younger generation are being developed in the country, which are successfully implemented.

English-speaking countries

In many countries in Europe and not only (England, Ireland, Singapore, Jamaica, Malta, the Bahamas, New Zealand, and even the whole continent in Australia) , English is the official language, and therefore the native language. I must admit that it, in fact, is a part of six international languages, therefore it has the most direct relation to the holiday. At any negotiation, on a journey and just in communication, he will be your main wand-rescue.

Each language is beautiful and beautiful in its own way, so you must not forget it, love it, cherish it and be proud of it!

Mother's Day in Russia

In our country, the love of one's native language can be compared to the feeling of true patriotism that permeates each and every one of us. Especially when it comes to primordially Slavic values, to which we can confidently include the Russian language.

There are many different worthy statements about the Russian word, but better than the classics, no one has spoken on this topic yet. The words of the great Russian writer IS Turgenev, which said: "... you are my only support and support, oh great, mighty, truthful and free Russian language" can be attributed to the most precise dictum and clearly reflecting our spirit of patriotism. " Or it is enough to recall the decisive statement of VG Belinsky, he maintained that "the Russian language is one of the richest languages in the world, and there is no doubt about it." Perhaps, it's hard not to agree with these brilliant people, because thanks to our language we think, communicate, create.

In our country, the day of the native language, the script of which is carefully thought out and prepared in advance, is carried out in many schools, libraries, palaces of culture, higher educational institutions and other educational institutions. Students carefully select in which way the topic will be covered, learn the words, rehearse. All the appointed events, as a rule, are solemn, patriotic and cognitive. They are conducted with the purpose of educating the children's feelings of respect and love for their culture, history, traditions and, of course, their native Russian language.

Disappearing dialects

In the language of statistics, today, out of six thousand existing languages in the world, more than two hundred are considered extinct, they do not have any living media. Also there is an unfavorable language category of endangered and endangered species of speech (almost without descendants speaking to them). And unstable languages that are not successful because they do not have official status, and the territory of their distribution is so small that the prospects for their continued existence leave much to be desired.

In Russia, about 140 languages are on the verge of leaving from use, and twenty have already been recognized as lifeless.

Each language has its own characteristics and culture. It distinguishes nations, makes people appreciate and respect their indigenous style of speech, pass it from generation to generation. Therefore, the day of the native language should definitely be supported as an international holiday, encouraged and conducted at the proper level in all countries of the world.
