Independent repair of the shock absorber. Repair of shock absorber racks by own hands

Shock absorbers jam out various kinds of vibrations, soften impacts from pits, etc. For this, there is a special piston inside the liquid, which goes up and down the viscous substance. As a rule, this part serves for a long time. Do not need to repair the shock absorber racks with your own hands. But it's not about our roads speech. Therefore, you need to know how to repair the shock absorber. There are several nuances about which we will talk.

Removal of shock absorbers

There are front and rear racks. Of course, road handling and vibration damping depends on all four racks, but more attention should be paid to the front. If there was a strange knock, creak, leakage of liquid, etc., it's time to go to the observation pit and make a replacement. Of course, you can always go to the service, but shock absorbers are expensive parts, so sometimes it's easier to repair them yourself.

It is best to put the car on a pit, so it will be much more convenient to perform all procedures. To remove the rear shock absorbers, simply remove the wheels and unscrew the rack mounts on the beam support. That's all. After that, you can start repairing the shock absorber. But we still need to remove the front ones, and to make it a little more complicated. It is desirable to remove the rack with the brake disc, because it's easier and faster. But in any case, you have to sweat.

Repair of shock absorbers by one's own hands

After you have removed all the racks, you can proceed directly to the repair. If we are dealing with non-separable shock absorbers, then, in principle, the choice is small. The only thing we can do is add some liquid by drilling a hole in the body. In other cases, the failed part is simply thrown away, and then a new one is installed.

If we are faced with a collapsible kind of shock absorbers, which happens more often on the classics, then this is good. First of all we need to remove the anther from it, and then unscrew the fastening nut and take out the shock absorber. Immediately it is desirable to change the fluid inside the new one, which is caused by the loss of its properties during operation. We need to remove from the stem a protective ring with an oil seal and a gasket (gasket). After that, we carry the body of the device to the vice, where it is necessary to clamp it. Do this carefully so as not to damage the part.

We continue the repair work

After the shock absorber is in the vice, it is necessary to pull out the compression valve. This can be done manually or with the help of pliers. It is also necessary to detach the stem together with the piston. If at this stage there are difficulties, you can make sufficient effort or, shaking the stock in different directions, get it out of the case, which is more effective.

After that, we will see the spring in the body, as well as the throttle disk. There are several compression valves. Then all the details are taken out in sequence, and the collection is carried out in the reverse order. It must be remembered that during the operation various defects are formed: mechanical wear, scuffing, etc. All this can not be left unattended. Since our main goal is to repair the shock absorber, everything that has a defect needs to be changed. For this purpose it is recommended to use new spare parts. They are sold by special sets in auto shops.

Repair shock absorber, or What else to pay attention to

Every motorist should remember that the replacement of the racks is performed in pairs. That is, if we change one shock absorber, for example, to the left, then the right one is also to be replaced. The same applies to the repair, although visually the device can operate normally, but literally after 1000-2000 kilometers it can fail, which means that again you need to disassemble everything and change the details.

It is strongly recommended to repair the front shock absorber (and rear also) on the "goats", and not on the jacks. This is done solely for security reasons. It is impossible not to notice that the front shock absorbers on VAZ-series vehicles change much more easily than on front-wheel-drive foreign cars, since there it will be necessary to uniformly compress the spring on both sides with special ties. Do not forget that after a complete replacement of the rack you will need to call in the camber / convergence, as the corner is broken, which causes a rapid wear of the tires, deteriorating handling, destruction of the suspension, etc.

Practical tips

If you repair the shock absorber racks with your own hands, you need to remember that the oil must be replaced. And the need to fill is not motor, and shock-absorbing, because it is specifically designed for this purpose. After you do the repairs, do not test the car for durability on a bad road, as this leads to the destruction of the entire suspension. I would also like to note that if you are the owner of a modern, expensive car, then most likely you have fixed shock absorbers.

As for the instrument, it will be found for every motorist. You will need a rack wrench, in some cases - ties and springs (for the front drive). That's all we need from the instrument. Do not forget about the "goats" on which the car is installed, while there is a repair of the VAZ shock absorbers.

Conclusion

Most people who take up self-repair, completely sort out the stuffing of the shock absorber. However, it is not necessary to do this, you can confine yourself to replacing the cartridge assembly. This ensures that the entire cartridge goes away long enough, it will not be necessary to disassemble and assemble it every month.

You should always be able to visually identify and find defects. It is not difficult to do this. To do this, it is enough to imagine what a "healthy" shock absorber looks like, and yours. If there are any discrepancies, then this is an occasion to reflect. As for determining the suitability of the spring, if there are no visible defects in the form of cracks, etc., and there is no loss of properties, then it can be left. In all cases, we change the anther (regardless of its condition).

So it turns out that self-repair of the shock absorber is not so difficult. To do this, you only need to follow certain rules and have the necessary tool. Experience comes with practice, so do not be alarmed if the repair work takes a long time. For the first time this is normal.
