If you stepped on a nail, what to do

If the person has stepped on the nail when doing household chores, what to do in this situation? The answer is not known to everyone, but it is timely measures taken that can prevent many complications. A stab wound with a nail can inflame or cause a tetanus.

If the object or nail does not go too deep, then it should be removed from the body, and the wound should be disinfected with hydrogen peroxide and alcohol. Remove foreign objects from the wound with sterilized tweezers. You can make it so by piercing it over fire or simply boiling it.

Everything is much more serious if the nail is deeply entered into the body. In this situation, only a doctor should take any action. It is impossible to extract either a nail or its parts independently, since they can penetrate deeper into the flesh. The doctor will pull out the nail, inspect the wound and remove all debris and foreign bodies.

If a person stepped on a nail, what to do, we have already found out. If it happened that a person ran into a larger object, and now he or his piece sticks out of the body, do not try to extract it. The protruding part should be shortened, and the object itself immobilized with a bandage, which, if possible, should be sterile. With this type of injury a person should be quickly delivered to the hospital, where he will receive quality care.

But when a trauma really is a large foreign object, and even if vital organs are affected, in no case should the body be touched, but it is urgent to call an ambulance. If thoughtless actions and inadequate care can develop bleeding, which, not even an hour, will lead to death.

A person living in the modern world, when the medicine is at a sufficiently high level, must take care of himself in advance in order to minimize the risk that may arise in a situation if he, for example, has stepped on a nail. What to do in order not to worry about the consequences, you ask? First of all, a tetanus vaccination should be made. With a trauma such as a puncture wound with a nail, the risk of developing tetanus rises many times. If five years have not passed since the last vaccination, then there is no need to worry, the risk of developing a fatal disease is minimal. With a period of duration of the vaccination from five to ten years, it is worth stimulating immunity and introducing an antitetanus toxoid: it will protect the body and prolong the life of the vaccine for another ten years. But if more than ten years have passed since the last vaccination or its date is not known at all, then it is worthwhile to vaccinate a person from tetanus completely.

In addition to vaccinations, in the prevention of tetanus, a great role is played by medicines for the treatment of wounds, an important component of which is hydrogen peroxide, which releases atomic oxygen. For tetanus bacteria, it is disastrous, their growth and development occurs when there is no oxygen, which is facilitated by the punctured wound of the foot, when stepped on the nail. What to do in this situation, we now know. The main thing is to take care of your health and, if necessary, immediately contact a specialist.
