How to get to Oktyabrsky Railway Station

Belarusian, Kazan, Yaroslavl, Paveletsky, Kursk, Kiev, Riga, Savelovsky and Leningrad - nine railway stations in Moscow. But how to get to Oktyabrsky railway station? And to Nikolaevsky? What, you never even heard of such? It's time to reveal the secret ... It's about one of the already named stations - Leningrad.

In 1844, under the decree of Nicholas I, the construction of a station for trains on Kalanchevskaya Square in Moscow began. Just on the spot demolished because of the ruin of the Italian theater, as it was then called, the "station" - the vocal hall (Vauxhall). Not surprisingly, the locals decided that a new theater was under construction.

And although they were wrong, the stations for trains are still called stations. And by the spectacle and bright events, the Nikolaevsky Railway Station surpassed the most daring expectations. And if the people were going to the frivolous theater on the outskirts of the city reluctantly, the railroad launched in 1851 became the center of people's attraction.

Arrival of each train, and this action of the natural theater of life, although it was rare, became a colorful spectacle. Kalachev Square gained fame, and the ceremonial structure of the station with columns and the famous tower with three hours - turned out to be the center of meetings, partings and forward news brought from the Northern capital. By the way, the building of the Nikolayevsky railway station is a copy, reduced almost two times, of the Petersburg railway station.

Nikolaevsky will soon change its name to Oktyabrsky Railway Station. In revolutionary times, he staunchly maintained defense and was devoted to monarchical foundations until the seventeenth year. But even then the station had not yet been renamed, even though the monument to Lenin was installed there. In 1923, in memory of the rebellious past, Moscow called the October Railway Station - in honor of the complete revolution.

In 1933, Kalanchevskaya Square became Komsomolskaya, and in 1934 the Oktyabrsky railway station was reconstructed. The passengers had a telegraph, a help desk, a post office and a savings bank, new ticket offices, a mother and child room, and a rest room for those passing by. In 1937, the Moscow Oktyabrsky Railway Station was renamed Leningrad. The metro station, opened here in 1952, was named Komsomolskaya, as well as the square on which the station is located.

Leningrad Station is still called, although already Leningrad has changed its name. But that old railway station is remembered by the old residents even today, despite the fact that only the facade has survived from it. Time demands take their toll. The historic building, being reformed, preserves the destination. Last changes the station has undergone in 1977 when the newest pavilions and halls were built at that time.

Today, passenger trains from the Leningrad Railway Station in Moscow follow not only in the direction of St. Petersburg, but also in Veliky Novgorod, Pskov, Tver, Murmansk, Tallinn, Helsinki ... On suburban trains you can get to Klin, Solnechnogorsk, Zelenograd, Konakovo, Bologoye, The clay.

Leningrad (Nikolayevsky, and also - October) station - the pioneer of Moscow stations, opened in Russia the way to a systematic railway communication. Will be at the station, swipe your hand over rough walls, they remember a lot, they are a piece of history.
