Oktyabrskaya station - the metro is special and unique

Agree, Oktyabrskaya station is a metro, which is well known not only to Muscovites, but also to the guests of the Russian capital. Why? Well, of course, thanks to the magnificent location, because above there are important objects of cultural life in Moscow, for example, the Central House of Artists, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Donskoy Monastery, the Park. Gorky. Although it is impossible not to note the fact that the station itself is rather interesting both historically and architecturally.

Section 1. "October". Metro. general description

This station is located in the Moscow metro system on the famous Ring Line. From one side is "Dobryninskaya", and on the other - "Park of Culture". Oktyabrskaya metro station is located in the Yakimanka area. It has three vaults and is located at a depth of 40 meters below the ground, which automatically makes it an object of deep deposition. From the center of the hall you can change to the station of the same name, located on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line. From the lobby passengers take to the Leninsky Prospekt, the Crimean Val and Kaluga Square.

This convenient transportation hub was opened in 1950. Its restoration was carried out in 2010. During the works, new escalators, cash registers, turnstiles were installed, and the vestibule was altered, while the appearance of the station underwent significant changes. In honor of this event on November 15, 2010 at the ticket offices of the Ring Line you could buy holiday tickets with original design, valid for 2 trips.

Section 2. "October". Metro. History of construction

Its original name was "Kaluzhskaya", after the same name of the nearby square. In 1921, the square was given a new name "Oktyabrskaya", and only June 6, 1961 renamed the station itself. At present the area is again called "Kaluga", but the station has the former name - "Oktyabrskaya".

Interior design, invented by L. Polyakov, is dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. It should be noted that the victory theme was used in the construction of other metro stations, but only L. Polyakov was able to recreate the temple style. To the apse depicting the altar, are the rows of torches. It itself is made in blue, embodying the bright future of the Soviet people. The apse is covered by a metal fence, made in Empire style.

According to experts, it is this metro station - the first, whose architecture is so reminiscent of the samples of the temple architecture of the West and at the same time the basilica of early Christianity.

Section 3. "October". Metro. Typical features of the station

The ground pavilion is made in the form of a grandiose triumphal arch, which outside is decorated with bas-reliefs of women and men dressed in the uniform of the Soviet Army. Figures are illuminated by lamps located on columns.

In 1990, the ground vestibule of the station was built into the building of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. The pylons are lined with gray marble. They are decorated with lamps in the form of torches. They were made by AI Damaski of anodized aluminum. Traveling walls are lined with ceramic tiles of light yellow color and decorated with tiles of wreaths. The floor is covered with granite of two colors: gray and red. The central hall along the perimeter is decorated with a patterned insert of alternating bands of marble of light and dark tones.

The halls with cashiers and escalators are decorated with bas-reliefs made by GI Motovilov. These bas-reliefs depict armed soldiers, combat banners and girls embodying Glory. On the pylons there are medallions on which Soviet soldiers are depicted.

Agree, still, Moscow can surprise us! The Oktyabrskaya metro station is another confirmation of this.
